Trying to Decide on Woodstove, help please.

My wife and I are trying to decide on a woodstove for our house and are hoping that some of you may have experience with some of our options or advice, thanks.
We are in South Central Alaska with winter temps normally in the teens to 20's (although this winter we have seen quite a bit of below 0). Our house was built in 1997 and is pretty well insulated, it is a 2-story house approx 1400sqft with the main floor being about 900sqft with the front half open to 16' ceilings and the back half has an upstairs of about 500sqft with bed/bath, etc.
Our primary heat source is an oil-fired boiler with radiant in-floor heat, so we are not looking for a 24/7 heat source but rather something to reduce our oil costs, take the chill off on those particularly cold days and provide heat in case of an extended power outage.
We are really drawn to the looks of some of the more contemporary looking soapstone stoves and while I don't want something so small it will not accomplish what we want, I also don't want to get something so large that it will cook us out of the house.
Some of the models we have been looking at are;
Rais Bando
Wittus Zeus
Wittus Fineline 2
Hearthstone Bari
Scan Anderson 10 (w/soapstone sides added)
Does anyone have experience with any of these stoves, recommendations, advice, etc? Thanks for your assistance |

| The Scan A-10 is an awesome stove. It is cast iron with a soapstone option for the sides. Huge glass and EPA rated. You cant go wrong with this one. I also like the Hwam stoves. The make some really nice contemporary stoves. |

| I've got the Anderson 10 in my house, but with the black cast iron panels. Lots to love about this stove, approx. 6 hour burn time, nice big glass, and clean burning. Complaints would be poor ash/door lip design, it seems a little spills out each time you open the door, and the glass can get sooted up if you're not burning it hotly enough. Otherwise a really solid stove. The skamol firebrick is awesome. |
