Old Prefab fireplace repair

I have an unknown prefab firplace. The house was built in 64. The fire brick on the bottom is cracked and bowed up in the middle. The metal underneath is flat and in good shape. The peices are 9"x18"x 1 3/4". The fire brick itself is only 3/4" thick the rest is insulation. Question is can I replace the firebrick with a regular firebrick without insulation on it.
