My mother has always wanted a "rustic" look to her 1960's brick fireplace. Before Dad died he had a wood insert installed. this project was on his "Honey-Do" list but he never got around to it. I'ld like to resurface the existing red brick with a river-rock style brick. Only I don't know what to do about the existing brick base as the insert protrudes out and rests on it. And I'ld rather not remove the insert if I have to.. Anyone has any ideas on how I can best complete this project?
