Can I lessen the noise of my Quadra Fire insert fans?

Posted by brnpa (My Page) on

Hello,

I recently installed a Quadra Fire 3100i, which looks, burns and heats great, but the fans are noisy, which others have complained of as well. Has anyone attempted to lubricate or change the fans to something different to remedy the noise? These fans look like computer fans, which tend to be quieter than the QF fans, so I'm wondering if I can find a very quiet computer-type fan to replace the default ones. Or, is it a bearing problem that some dry or wet lubricant would help?
Any suggestions welcomed (even ones that say 'live with it').

Thanks!

RE: Can I lessen the noise of my Quadra Fire insert fans?

Hi,

I also have a Quadra Fire 3100i and the fans are loud. I took it apart today and cleaned the fan blades (they had a lot of dust on them) and that helped but I think that the design of the insert and the way the air circulates around the back and sides of the heating chamber leads to a lot of the noise. I wonder if anyone has tried replacing the stock fans with something quieter (more blades per fan or even a Dyson air foil would be an interesting replacement). Let me know if you find a solution. Thanks.
