anyone here work for a bank- getting OLD monthly statements

I would like to get very old monthly statements- from July 1994 to about July 1997. Need to prove a point to a family member. With a cost, is it even possible? The bank would be in Florida- can't remember the name right now.
Thanks

Chances are - no. They've probably changed computer systems 5 times - and changed hands as dozen more. You can call and see, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Banks have to report taxes like everyone else. Perhaps you could contact the IRS and see if they can help or direct you to someone who can.

It is possible the data is archived somewhere, banks generally have information far, far longer than we could imagine...and if it is, it is probably a very manual, non-standard procedure to get it unarchived. It probably takes a very long time and my guess is it would only be done if the records are needed for a legal matter and likely have to be subpoened.

I think a large bank would be more likely to have the records, but a small bank may have less red tape and hassle to locate and provide the records. I suppose you should be hoping for the latter! ;)

You could also consider just letting the matter with the family member drop, it was a long time ago. I don't obviously know the story, and I am not asking, but you have to ask yourself if it is worth it.

12 to 15 years is asking a lot, but the only way to find out is to ask your particular bank. I was able to get 5 year old statements very easily from my local credit union, but like I said, 12-15 years is probably pushing it. There is probably a retention period, and I'd bet it is no more than 10 years for consumer accounts.

Man, you must really want to make a point to go to all this trouble. How much is riding on this bet?

sorry graywings, this isn't a funny bet.
dreamgarden- I don't need the info for tax purposes.
hrajotte- you have given me some hope....I keep forgetting to call until too late in the day!

At the bank I work for we can easily search back to 1994 with just the account number.
