Am I right to be annoyed or am I just being a crappy daughter??
Comments (12)I finally got to read your whole post. I bet you are feeling like tearing your hair out because she sure doesn't seem to value your time or that you have other things to do. I am so sorry. My dad will be 91 in July and had hip/femur surgery in November and, sadly, it just hasn't healed. The next step is a partial hip replacement with a titanium rod inserted in the femur. What I have noticed is that on the days he has pain he can't seem to hand me his lunch or dinner plate or mail in order for me to clean up. I think it is a mental decision that they can't do the simplest of things. I think contacting any senior centers or any senior programs available through government services might be a great start. There are organizations that will take your mom grocery shopping or to appointments if they are fairly local. Some charge, some take donations and some are totally free. Many grocery stores have online ordering and will deliver to her home for a fee. That could be a lifesaver for sure. Do insist on being in charge of her calendar or you won't be able to attend or drive. She cannot make decisions for you when you are the ride. Let us know what you have decided to do and know that we all support you and most have gone through (or are going through) similar situations. The is a great place to vent! Comments (21)HOW MUCH ! I wish I would have seen your post before you paid that. The guy @ the shop was full Of S*@%. Sorry for the language but I get very upset when I hear about an unscrupulious/ dishonest Mechanic. If your car came into my shop and we did the same work, You would be out of there for under $ 400.00 and @ that price I'm still making a few bucks. But when one of these so called Pros rips off an unsuspecting consumer, it just gives HONEST MECHANICS another black eye. I've attached a listing for a Catalytic converter ,that fits your car, from one of my suppliers. This is one of 4 suppliers that I can get these from. I am sorry that you where taken for a ride but hopefully it won't happen again. Comments (5)I'm building a pool (New Pool in St Petersburg FL thread) and the best thing I did was push really, really hard to get four quotes. Now, to get four quotes, I met with 8 different pool companies who sent a rep to my house, got a copy of my survey, went out and tape measured the backyard, talked about options, construction, costs, etc. (Some just dropped out, which is why only 4 quotes out of all that.) BUT, the best thing was how much I learned about pool construction and the various choices I had. Each person I had a discussion with taught me something, so by the time I was getting the last quote, I was asking the right questions and knowing when I was being "BS-ed". My pool is pretty big (about 650sf, very rough est) and my tile is $3550 (this includes a $6/sf allowance for tile, plus the installation). I go from 3.5' to 6.5' and my PebbleSheen is $7310 (plus I'm adding $300 "Shimmering Sea" abalone shell for sparkle) My Hayward Navigator vacuum is $545, so I don't need the extra pump like the Polaris. Don't pay the extra for a Polaris unless there is a reason that you need it (I think if you get lots of leaves then it's good, but the others on this forum will give you better info on that). Since you're getting bonding (sort of like electrical grounding), you may want to replace the lights while you're doing all this. If you don't want the $700 "disco lights", Intellibrite makes a white LED. FYI, my electrical is $2110 total, including bonding, equipment, lights. Electrician has to come out three times to do his jobs. Hope this helps. I talk about a lot of this stuff in my blog (without getting into cost specifics though), the decision making process. Comments (24)My Mazda 323 with standard tranny was 24 years old when it bit the dust last summer ('88 to '12 is 24, isn't it?) ... garage told me that the $65. for a replacement water pump ... and the $300. or so needed to install it wasn't worth it. The electrical connection to the thermostat-controlled fan at the radiator had gone bad, so the superheated coolant (if you'll pardon the expression: I claim to know whether I'm coming or going) had blown the seals in the water pump. What was that about, " ... for the want of a nail ... the shoe was lost ... for a want of a shoe the horse was lost ... and for the want of a horse ... the king was lost ... and for the want of a king, the nation was lost"? The '05 Cobalt that replaced it (for a modest price, paid in cash without strain: a financial cushion causes less stress, on occasion) ... ... doesn't have a light inside the ignition lock that "tells you where to put it", so to speak. And doesn't have two little lights over the front seats, that one can push one side of to turn on a light concentrated on one's lap, then push the other side of it to turn off. Gotta reach around behind one's right shoulder ... using the arthritic right shoulder that doesn't like to push the arm up high, to push the switch on the light that lights up the interior. Glucosamine sulphate started a few months ago is causing some improvement, there - less onerous to reach breakfast cereal on the top shelf, recently. As the kid replied when the oldsters, after church, were complaining about this and that regarding the service, "What do you want for a nickel - chimes?" Hope you're enjoying your wheels. ole joyfuelled ... who also needs a bit o' gas, at times...See MoreJonesy
