The anti-Organic Movement
Comments (104)I think the key to organics is sustainability, not necessarily some anecdotal health or quality benefit or a dogmatic adherence to "purity", both physically and philosophically. If chemical fertilizers damage the environment by killing the soil life, choking the watersheds, and resulting in more pollution, etc, then not only is it morally abhorrent, it just isn't good business sense or resource management. You kill your supply and potentially kill your demand (through systematic poisoning), you lose customers. But then again, I could go on about subsidies and lack of property rights that reduces these incentives, but I'll withhold. As for buying food, I think more emphasis should be put on buying local rather than the "organic" label, which probably was grown 3000 miles away in China by some dirt cheap labor and flown over with hundreds of gallons of gas, not to mention it probably isn't fresh. However, if people have chosen a lifestyle, for whatever reason, people should respect their choices and inquiries. I don't see many people mocking vegans for their lifestyle, claiming its a scam and marketing ploy which ultimately is futile....See MoreCostco Lennox Unit a Good Deal?
Comments (46)I recently purchased the Lennox unit from Costco and it is not a good deal and also buyer beware. I was looking to have a 3-ton mini-split unit installed in my garage. One of my requirements was an external smart thermostat. Costco does not do the install and is a middle man. They sub contract the work out to my local HVAC contractor who said the unit would support an external smart thermostat of my choice. This was confirmed 3 times. After the install was completed, they were unable to support an external smart thermostat (not Lennox). I am now in a battle to get the unit removed and refunded and Costco is a total pain in the ass and refused to refund me even though the contract specifically states install customer provided smart thermostat. I'm working through other channels right now before suing them for the refund. Couple of lessons learned: 1. Lennox is dated and doesn't support external smart thermostats. This is important so you can control all your HVAC through a single app and also gives you added features from a tech company. 2. The "deal" itself is not a deal. After getting quotes for a new unit (that does support an external thermostat), I found that you are getting ripped off. Costco gives you a 10% rebate to buy stuff from Costco but even after all of that you can get units installed cheaper from others 3. Go buy a Mitsubishi or Fujitsu unit as they are more current with features and support of things. Everyone has been telling me that Lennox is the lowest end brand/units 4. Do not buy any contractor services from Costco because #1, they don't do the work and it's hard to get a refund if anything goes wrong. They are just a middle man taking a cut that you can get better pricing elsewhere....See MoreWhat do you think of RH grey card?
Comments (29)I have bought a lot of pieces from RH for many years. I still really like all of them for their classic style. BUT, I am not drawn into their new enormous stores. Although beautiful like a museum, not inspiring for my home furnishing. And I am so underwhelmed by their source books. Page after page of feeling like you are looking at the same room. RH modern is just to expensive and scale of pieces is too large. Styles have changed to more color and pattern. I would like to incorporate that with my RH classic pieces. Not going to find much color or pattern at RH. So, I haven't spent the 100.00 for a membership. I think good point, it's not a Costco membership where you consistently shop there. There was a 400.00 side chair at RH I wanted to purchase and didn't because one, had to buy 100.00 membership to get price and two, there was 199.00 to ship it. Silliness!! At some point, I will likely buy a membership. There is a large piece I want. I really hope they get things in order in their house and stay in business!! The company is in trouble and is certainly looking at what to do now....See MoreAnother scam
Comments (5)We no longer answer the phone when it’s from a number that we don’t know. Our thinking is that if it’s someone that really needs to get in touch with us they’ll leave a message. Yesterday my wife decided to play along with one of these callers. The caller ID read “Quebec”. My wife: “Bon jour!” Caller: “Grandma?” Wife: “Jayme? Jayme, is that you?” (My wife’s not a grandma and doesn’t know anyone named Jayme.) Caller: “Yes” “Grandma, I’m in a little bit of trouble. The other night I was riding in the car with Paul and his friend and we got pulled over by the Police. I didn’t know it but Paul’s friend had drugs in the car and we all got arrested. I’m going to need some money to get out of jail.” Wife: “Jayme, I told you that I’d never have anything to do with you if you ever did drugs again.” Caller: “But I wasn’t doing any drugs Grandma, it was Paul’s friend!” Wife: Hangs up. Immediate call back and she blocks the number on her phone. Two days later and she’s still chuckling about it....See Morejoyfulguy
