Appliance dealer won't take Amex for range
Comments (63)..chick - I think I have a pretty good handle on the merc. agreements and that one cannont surcharge for the cc transaction. But, how does my having 3 different prices (non published) and quoting you only the one that covers my O&P AFTER I ask you how you'd like to ring up the deal? Thats how my car dealer wrote up my invoice. I understand this is brealking the spirit, intent, and may even be strictly against the agreement but I also feel it falls into the grey area too. Since alot of people don't pay for larege appliance orders, autos, heavy equipment, with CC's, I think it's just easier to leave the xtra markup for cc transactions out of the price unless that's where it's headed. Otherwise it gets to be used car world with hot dogs and ballons and the price today is: tomorrow it goes up, next week more, if you pay cash it's this, finance that bla, bla, bla. I know you want to protect the home team (cc companies) because you're close to that industry. They are not stellar role models of fairness in the business world either, hidden fees, cryptic disclosures, privacy policies that state one thing then sell your name to a "marketing partner" anyway, and that's after you have to positively opt out of the share program anyway - can't just call em you have to write, and it better go certified or there'll be no record. I think this thread is great in that there is pushback from the cc co.s, consumers, and the appliance folks. Seems like no one is a winner and that usually means it's a good compromise. (appologies to the deciples of the WIN/WIN philosophy) I agree with you on the contract/ethical issue in principle but in reality I don't see this as any different than any other human nature issue when it comes to disagreement. The party that feels wronged or cheated or has the short end of the stick avails himself to any remedy he can find to even the odds. Sometimes it's cheating under the radar, sometimes it's hiring lobbiests to further your interests in D.C. at the expense of customers mind you, sometimes it's appealing through official channels, sometimes it's pick up the phone and start a dialoge, sometimes folks get desperate and get a gun. Civil societies have laws AND courts when they aren't folowed or working well. A current example is the relationship btw. the steel producers and the auto makers. There is a current contract to supply steel and a given price but does not call for price escalation to cover the current state of transport costs and unseen demand for raw ore. The steel co. want more $$$ Detroit doesn't have it, doesn't want to pay if it did. Steel execs have a duty to their sharholders and are not going to sell themselves into bankruptcy so they can be good standup guys and "honor" the contract. Options are to break the contract not good for Detroit, (no steel no cars) re negoiate, stop delivering would be breaking the contract like charging more for AMEX, but it's business and human nature. It will settle itself sooner or later and no one will be 100% happy. Not exactly a model for good christian living but it's how the world goes round at it's core. You conduct yourself as you see fit and I do it another way , and the guy across the river a third. As long as there is a bit of common ground anarchy won't ensue....See Morehas anyone else had anything close to this experience?
Comments (18)Wow so many with the same situation, although mine is not because of him losing a job in this economy. I always seemed to find the really nice guys that lacked motivation - I married two of them. My first husband was in finance, and figured that he could work fewer hours and manage to make enough. I was working and had two young children and he did not think that his free time was for housework or watching the kids even when I went to the gym - I had to get a sitter so that he would not have to commit to being home. No matter how much counseling or discussion between us could make him see how it felt to have him sitting on the front porch reading the paper while I was going crazy in the house getting lunches ready and the kids and me out of the house every morning. The neighbors even noticed! I felt if I was going to live like a single parent, I might as well be able to date, so I divorced him. And then I did the same thing again! What the heck was wrong with me?? When I met my second husband, he had a job, but all of his jobs were not long-term or careers -- he was also an under-employed carpenter. He was an awesome person, and a great step-father to my kids, but the housework was not even on his radar. However, with his more "flexible schedule", he was the one that could get a sick kid at school or be home if needed, so he was a bit of a house husband and that allowed me to concentrate on my job. But once the kids were off at college, I joked that he was my oldest child, but it really wasn't a joke. Unfortunately he died suddenly a little over a year ago, and although I miss him terribly, I am not going to make the same mistake again. I'm fortunate that I can support myself as I've been doing it for years anyway. If there is a next guy he will have to be at least where I am financially (which is not much!) and be interested in a true partnership. We all have to put up with stupid bosses and policies, but how can these men think it's OK to put their pride before their employment because they won't tolerate whatever they don't agree with? You can't be an employee and do things any way you want - we all have to suck it up for a job. If these guys didn't have a wife, I wonder what would they do? Please understand, I'm not knocking your hubbies - especially after the men I married! Many of you seem to be adapting to the new normal in your households. What makes it work is a sense of teamwork between the two of you, each doing what needs to be done. A wife can't be the breadwinner and then come home to housework & cooking while the husband plays - that situation won't last long without resentment....See MoreAnyone else having trouble with contractor and paint?
Comments (10)Oh my!!! I WISH you would've come to my Paint Dept.!!! To correct a couple things.... 1) Stores calibrate their Scanner(s), not the tinters. Although computerized tinters usually have to be calibrated yearly. 2) Competitive-brand fandeck software can cost a bundle, and some stores may not want to buy this kinda stuff. All these REALLY are...are just lab-scans of different fandecks, and converted to formulas for a certain stores'/brands colorant-databases. 3) I do two things....I'll look at the "Stored formula" in our competitive library, and compare it to a couple of scans. Then I "back off" of a couple colorants, and shoot the color. This way, I can always add more to tweak a color. >>> There's no way to know if a stores' "Scan-Library" (Competitive Fandecks) will match a chip until the paints actually made. >>> Ask me how I know this....;-) From now on people: * Specify in your painters' contracts that you DO NOT want a color matched into "their favorite" brand...UNLESS you're OK with it. Possibly something like "No color matching". * Or, like I deal with every day...."I want -color x- matched into C2 paint". No problem there! It's usually quite a step up from the color-chip/brand they have! * Inquire with painters if they have favorite brands, and find out specifics. If you have a firm preference, see if your painter is OK with it too. Many will apply what you like. Others are pretty set in their ways!! Sorry for being "Mr. Wordy" there! Comments (1)Sometimes when there are substitute mail people they are not as careful as they should be. All the mail people are under such pressure to get the mail out they just don't take time to check things. You might take it to the PO and put in a complaint. Sometimes this works sometimes not. As to your CC, ordering and paying on line are suppose to be safe, but we too have had trouble with Amex several years ago. When we want to order something from a company we are not familiar with we use virtual number from Citibank. You use it once, and cannot be used again--but then with a business if you use it alot that might not work. Do you have your information online? That way you can check it daily, if you have time....See Moredavidrt28 (zone 7)
