Anyone experiencing this with credit card companies?
Comments (22)I don't think that there's been much change in the parameters relating to my cards (one recently signed up for) in recent months. It's the old corporate game - while they love competition among their suppliers ... and among their customers ... they hate it on their own level and work to get rid of their competition at whatever cost: buy the competitors, squeeze them out, start frightening rumours about them or whatever. There aren't a lot of card companies ... so they can pretty well set their own rules ... and we can take it or leave it. They offer unsecured loans ... and have been suffering losses, as people die owing, go bankrupt, etc. And, the economy being what it is, with so many becoming unemployed, they likely anticipate more such losses in the near future. Plus many of the banks have been left holding the bag on many of those stinky loans, mortgages, etc. - I own Canadian bank shares, which got stuck with a number of them, and the value of my shares are now less than 40% of what they were in early summer 2007. Good wishes for increasing skill at managing your money effectively. ole joyful...See Morevery weird...somewhat disturbing-usps and an amex bill
Comments (1)Sometimes when there are substitute mail people they are not as careful as they should be. All the mail people are under such pressure to get the mail out they just don't take time to check things. You might take it to the PO and put in a complaint. Sometimes this works sometimes not. As to your CC, ordering and paying on line are suppose to be safe, but we too have had trouble with Amex several years ago. When we want to order something from a company we are not familiar with we use virtual number from Citibank. You use it once, and cannot be used again--but then with a business if you use it alot that might not work. Do you have your information online? That way you can check it daily, if you have time....See MoreIs anyone else having trouble getting on this new Houzz site???
Comments (30)I just gave up...... After having a Gardenweb account since forever, since back when it was an offshoot of the "Parent Soup" channel thing at AOL.back in the mid-late 1990's and was still doing the same thing at the various changes and new corporate whatevers and never had an issue before or after changing my email address to Gmail in April 2004. I finally just entered a new account name at the same exact email address I have maintained since April 2004 and seemingly have either no "old" account or the new account has no conflict with the old. The old just not being able to "sign in". I have been doing this sort of thing since 1990 before even AOL back when "online" was a BBS running off of a hot rod 2400 Baud modem plug in card on an Apple IIE. I have never been one tobe concerned with site appearances, but the Huuzz scheme fonts colors layout everything, is absolutely horrendous. Just my $.02 worth..... YMMV...See MoreAMEX and credit score...
Comments (11)Although Bry911 states scores over 800 you should just relax with a drop the 5 point drop I received did effect the cost of my car and house insurance. Car insurance uses a different score and credit pulls typically don't change the score. Home insurance can change because of credit pulls but it is a fairly minor change. In either situation an 800 FICO without a lot of credit card debt as the OP stated will return insurance scores close to 950, anything above an 800 is going to keep you in the lowest rate. In fact, it is hard to have a bad insurance pull with credit above a 720. Bry mentioned a 25 pt drop but I did not see that number in any of the remaining posts. A hard pull drops your credit between 2 and 4 points per pull for 1 year with old pulls sometimes having a diminished effect. The higher and lower your score the higher the effect on your credit, additionally if you have old pulls but no recent pulls that doesn't hurt your score as much as old pulls plus recent pulls. In other words consistently pulling your credit hurts more than the same number of pulls at one time then a long break. It is impossible to accurately calculate the effect of a monthly hard pull but we can guess that at an 800+ credit score it is somewhere between 20 and 30 points....See Moredavidrt28 (zone 7)
