Best long distance plans

Has anyone any experiensce with Qwest on-line long distance? Does anyone have any good leads on best long distance plans? We didn't use long distance for a long time and I got rid of it. Now I am using all my cell minutes and think I might be better off getting a cheap LD carrier. These on-line deals-are they indeed deals? TIA.

These companies have a lot of different rates for different areas, so picking the best one depends a lot on where you are. The best resource I've seen that compares different phone plans is Phonedog.com. You can search through all the different plans available from carriers in your state and see side-by-side comparisons of their rates. This site also exposes hidden fees and charges people usually forget to ask about. Qwest is on the list of plans they discuss, so you might want to check it out.

This site also is great for comparing cell phone plans and rates. I like it this site a lot; it's a good one to bookmark.

You know pdu - your way of travelling without a carrier or crate works... until it doesn't. Sounds like a mellow guy but all it takes is one sudden loud unexpected noise (with a car door open) at a rest stop and your mellow cat suddenly isn't. Im on a lost cat forum and did a ton of research when my cat once went missing - cats lost at rest stops, campsites and while travelling or moving are all too common an occurrence. Add to that people being in a hurry and not willing or able to stay hours or days to look.... its a sad situation for the poor cat who may likely be abandoned ,.... and the people who generally are kicking themselves quite mercilessly for having been so careless. I'm truly baffled why people would not take even the simplest precautions. Carriers breaking in half (the screws coming loose) are another all too common occurrence. BTW - fyi missingpetpartnership.org is an amazing resource about lost pet behavior - dogs may panic and run and keep running, but cats lost in strange surroundings will typically hunker down silently (they are capable of concealing themselves in very small places) and not respond when called until they've calmed down which may take hours - maybe days. Your search would involve combing every square inch of the area - cant assume they'll come when called .... although perhaps at night when its very quiet you might be lucky and hear a tiny scared meow in reply.

Thanks bahacca for your input. I know it's not the best scenario, doing a kitchen long distance, but I'm seeing no other way. I don't want to hire a contractor because they will not expedite the install like we could. My mom is 91 years old; she cannot tolerate a lengthy rehab. I was just down by Mother's a few weeks back to measure her kitchen. I'm thinking I will order the cabinets extra-extra early so I can make the trip down there to inspect them well in advance of install-maybe 4-6 weeks. We're planning an install in March. We will be doing the demo, hence I'll order a dumpster. I'm retired, my husband is retired and so is my brother who will also help with the install; we have some flexibility and we are all skilled. I have a brother down there, but we rely on him so much already and I hate the idea of adding another task to his plate. That brother could accept replacements parts if necessary. We also rely so much on neighbors and friends. I think my mom would like the extra visits and attention from us. Mom has a heated barn so storage is not a problem. I'd like to hear from others about Shenandoah's customer service. I want to avoid as many snags as possible. Debrak, I have time before I need to place an order, so I would love to hear how it goes with your Shenandoah order and install as your project moves forward.

Celtic, I live in Miami so am somewhat familiar at least with the basics of HVAC needs in Florida. I tend to agree it's not a good idea to feel rushed about putting in a whole new system. I'd recommend you get onto the Tampa/Sarasota Angie's List and find a well recommended AC source there. Down here there are many, many AC vendors from quasi-corporate firms to individuals who are licensed and resell major brands. And a unit that was installed in 2005 shouldn't be on the verge of complete failure I'd also suggest you ease up on immersing yourself in the intricacies of HVAC systems. Really, unless you are going into the business yourself trying to do a crash course on the technology just isn't necessary. You know you want a heat pump which I agree is smart; although we don't get chilly weather often it's nice to have when we do. I'd strongly suggest you place higher weight on good energy efficiency. AC down here runs almost every single day of the year, for decades. That monthly electric bill is important to consider and a high SEER will more than pay for itself in the long run. I think the most important facet is a good vendor. Trane is pricey because of the name. There are a lot of companies who make very good central systems at a lower cost. For comparison, I am finishing the renovation of a rental property I inherited. It had a Carrier central system that was installed in 1998(!). The AC was working when I got the house but knowing it would need to be replaced I got several estimates. They came in ranging from $3500-$5000. I got one last referral from my contractor, who turned out to be a young guy just starting out on his own. He quoted me for the same system at $2500! Did a great job and everything is running fine. So my long winded response is: don't panic, don't feel you need to turn into an HVAC expert. Get the thing running now, find a good vendor source, have a solid energy efficient system put it in, and you'll be fine.

ewwmayo lol! gosh I was too lazy to crop the pot out and now that's the first thing that's commented on! haha. rina Naah I've only felted twice, I still have some felt left over! I'm hoping it is happy...a sweatered cactus.. Daniel -Totally not practical... : ) It's a felted "pot cover" that I felted and tugged over the clay pot inside. Always have to be pull it out of the way when I'm watering. And I made the pot way too small so the poor cactus doesn't have room to grow. (I know cacti like to have a smallish pot for their roots to sort of reach out against...but even with that in mind I know this pot is claustrophobically small) I haven't made any other felted pots but they're definitely cute decor. For things that don't need water.. lol. mintylemonade- I definitely take things too literally sometimes.

We buy the cards from Sam's Club. .045 per min, no minimum or connection fees, like the cards you get from convenience stores, etc. You only have to buy one card, then refill it at your convenience, same price per minute.

We have ACCXX for all of our long distance. It's costing 3.9 cpm. We have used the Sam's Club AT&T card for years, but hubby tired of dialing #'s. Card was great when we had kids in college. Very happy with ACCXX, have had it for home phone for 1 year, now have it at cottage too. They put both phone #'s on one bill. I think last one was 400 minutes and $18 for the month. With SBC and AT&T our bills used to run $150 per month!

Try Onesuite. It's 2.9 cents per minute in the U.S., 2.5 if you use a local number. Prepaid and does require pin numbers, but Onesuite has a feature that allows you both to bypass Pin entry and to enter your often-called numbers. Very easy to use. No taxes or fees - I canceled my long distance, too.

I do the same thing Tina does. I always get my calling cards at Sams Club or Costco, as they have the cheapest LD cards around. We haven't had a long distance carrier in about five years.
