holiday gift for GC & designer?
Comments (4)You could buy the crew a nice lunch and or beer at the end of the workday on the last day they work before Christmas. I do believe that would be about it in my opinion. If the GC's super had been on site constanatly and you feel he did a good job watching everyone's back (including your's) you might give him an envelope ($) if your so inclined as well....See MoreHoliday gift giving as children grow up
Comments (17)Would you believe-- my kids are still young (9, 6, 4, 2 and one more coming soon), and I have this problem, too? How many things do we actually want or need? Most people I know have enough, or more than enough . . .we are middle class people, too. Not wealthy compared to the 1% in the US, but wealthy if you think about the rest of the world. I wrote about this on another thread, but I am keeping in mind what my friend does: something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read. Something you need could be something like some socks or gloves. I made a spreadsheet with each category for the kids so I could keep track of this. I also included some items like each of their dolls getting something, and a small family gift. Anyway, my friend uses this for her DH, too. IMO, there is always a let-down after the presents are unwrapped (even when I was a kid) so I want to make Christmas like a party. We had a Hallow e'en party this year w/others this year, and it was a lot of fun. While I won't be inviting others over for Christmas, I am going to plan activities as a party for US. Once the presents are done, there will still be cooking decorating, crafts, karaoke, etc. Whenever anyone would rather go play with their new x, of course, they can! My friend is having an open house, so that will help as well. My mom gives us $, but she always gives a physical gift, too, so that we have something to unwrap. I think it's fun to buy for my mom-- one of those people who does not have or want excess but has the means for it . . .this year we got her a Keurig coffee maker. Something she would NEVER buy for herself, but she likes to use ours when she comes over....See MoreImportant remodeling advice....my holiday gift to you all....
Comments (3)begoniagirl, Welcome and I can't wait to see pictures! I found the laundry forum at the end of 2004 (not knowing then it was part of the GW Forums) and then found this decorating and the paint forum at the end of 2005. I found the kitchen and appliance forum at the end of 2006. I am now a regular and love giving advice, posting comments and sharing as well. The posters are more talented than many of the magazine pictures I see and pictures I see on other sites. We are blessed to have such generous and talented members....See MoreHoliday gift for contractors and subs
Comments (13)I also vote for treats, but if you can't or to supplement, I'm working on a 2-for-1 gift this year that I'm planning to distribute liberally and might work for you. One of my kids' schools has a 'saver' card to buy with coupons for local businesses. I presume these are donated by the businesses to the school as a fundraiser. They offer an impressive array of local stores that you can potentially save quite a bit of money at if you shop there anyway. So my purchase of these and wide-spread "gifting" of them helps the school, and hopefully also the business that benefits from the additional business, presumably (else why would they participate) and my "giftee" if they were going to be shopping there anyway, as they'll save money. Guess that makes it a win-win-win gift, I hope? I'm hoping it's not seen as, dunno what the term would be, "fool's gold" perhaps? in the sense that you have to spend money to save it. I wouldn't give it without a card also and hopefully an additional gift like, say, cookies. I'm planning on enclosing them in the holiday cards (I've yet to write) for neighbors as well. ~maybe it would work for you?...See Moreemma
