The Five Percent Club?

A poster on the Hawaii forum of TripAdvisor stated that only five percent of credit card holders pay the balance in full every month.

Can that be TRUE?

Having just re-read the thread here on dying with no assets and only CC debt, I can see one place that might be considered a wise strategy! but really, are 95% of CC holders paying endless interest on endless debt?

Maybe I'm NOT so smart to pay the balance in full...?

I've always heard that the percentage of people who carry a balance is around 50%.

In fact, here's a source that claims the same thing (taken from near the end of the article in the link below)

Linda~ the problem when friends publish is that they are generally friends,close enough to have over for coffee but not so close that absolute honesty is an expected part of the relationship. In those cases, it helps to be sideways-distracting (and not too outspoken about one's own opinion); so something like: "I'm just so proud of you for getting published! Did it take a long time? Did the editor require lots and lots of re-writing? Did you get to choose your cover? Do you have to do bookshop tours?" and any other indirectly relevant questions you can think of. It is possible to fascinated by the process more than by the final result; and most people can detect true interes t as well as faux praise so the more questions you can think of that indicate a true interest, the better. Of course, if the author flat-out asks your opinion of the writing, then you have a dilemna :) rhizo~ I'm noted for having a selective memory which tends to delete author-names and titles except in outstanding cases (outstandingly good). However, I looked the reject up: "Blur" by Bill Kovach was the 5-page flop. While the writing probably improved later in the book, I just wasn't able to force myself to find out where.

Canna from seed - percent success rate?

On March 4, I was given a few dozen canna seeds (very common old fashioned variety) that a friend picked last year. I delicately scarified a dozen, going only so deep as to show a tiny bit of white, using a VERY fine-toothed hack saw blade, then put into pre-boiled (and cooled, of course) water in clean glass tubes, capped. Stood the tubes up in a few cups on top of a radiator and they ALL started to sprout rootlets in 2 or 3 days. Then on March 8, I potted them up in moist sterile soilless mix in 6 oz solo cups, slashed for drainage on bottom. I might have broken off one rootlet when potting up, dunno. Back on the radiator for bottom heat. By March 12 there were 5 green sprouts; by March 13 eleven had sprouted. On March 22, I potted up to 16 oz solo cups, same soilless mix. The surviving eleven (92% success) are each about 8 inches tall with at least 4 leaves apiece. Not bad for a newbie at cannas. I attribute this success to: (a) reading this forum like mad before starting out -- thank you all! (b) not scarifying too aggressively nor going too deep -- just enough to break the shell and let a teensy bit of white show, (c) using punctilious hygiene and pre-boiled water to eliminate chlorine from my municipal tapwater, and (d) bottom heat on the radiator.

I got some rain!!! YEAH!!! Not a ton but enough to make my hostas ALL start poking their noses through! Aside from those...there is a bunch of things all about 1-2" up...name a few..... Astilbe Rudbeckia Lady's Mantle Sedum Assortment of Iris's Tulips - of course Daylilies are not like 6" tall Fern's Liatris A few more but I can't remember! Seems like the SUN part of my perennials are more on the up and up! Even my PARADE rose (a little rose!) that I got last year for my flower boxes was put in the ground and mulched heavy and is already showing green shoots!! I got it for like $5.00 a piece at Walmart...they bloomed little roses/like in a little bush with little dollar coin roses all summer and I thought they would not make it but obviously did!! The Snapdragons I planted last week are doing FABULOUS and so is the morning glory! I am impressed! I live in the Minneapolis area..Hennipen county...can anyone tell me...if I am DARING do you think I can put some cucumbers or squash out there? I started them indoors (I always do!) and theyare like 8" tall (squash-zucchini) and have multiple leaves, and like 5" tall (q-cumber)! They are soooo ready to go out there and keep asking me but I was scared....they will go in in the same area/sort of, as the snapdragons up against the fence/trellis with no wind! Anyone think I can drop them in this week???? Weather looks like 50 will be the night low after Tues.!!!! I am anxiuos I know!!!! Also...can anyone tell me...we are going to move my veggie area to a few NEW raised bed areas....it will be like 12" deep....what do you recommend me using for filler?? I know I need soil, compost manure, and maybe some sand? Anyone know what amounts of each?? Is there a ratio?? Also....I can't use TOP SOIL so should I just bite the bullet and buy all bags of the expensive potting soil for the "soil" part? Thanks much in advance! Becca

I googled "percentage of Americans who pay credit card balances monthly" and came up with several sites with statistics. Not one site had a figure as low as 5%, so I guess the club of people who don't carry a balance isn't that elite.

DH's institution is similar to greg's stats...40% carry balances & the average balance is $7K.

terriks -- That is a great name for a site! I recently saw a story on TV about a woman who (formerly) made a great living manufacturing items I'd seen in places like Linens 'n Things. One was a plastic goldfish 'swimming' in lucite inside a plastic baggie. The manufacturer is facing bankruptcy now that Americans aren't as excited about these things. Seeing that made me christen a lot of items I see on sale as 'landfill merchandise'. (It sounds better than 'crap'.)
