Another Child's side of estrangement-Should We Make Contact?
Comments (9)"We told them to make sure they used the booster seat and the Grandma said it was ridiculous that we were making him sit in a booster seat at his age, plus they didn't like the booster seat pressing into their leather seats in the car." 1) My daughter, age 6, is 39" tall and 38.3 pounds. She is tiny. It runs in the family. The carseat she came home from the hospital in is still her backup seat. It goes up to 80lbs. Here in CA a child must be in a seat until age 6 or 60lbs. Well, at age 6 she's no where near that weight, so she's still in the car seat. Not tall enough yet for the booster. And yes, I make sure everyone who drives her knows the rules (plus, she can see better from the extra heigth the booster gives her). 2) I had leather seats in my car, I put a fluffy beach towel down first and there were no issues with the leather. "they were not going to come to a Thanksgiving dinner celebration called a "peasant potluck", so they didn't come." Their loss. Sounds like fun to me! And a lot more like the first Thanksgiving would have been. Sounds like they missed the point. That being said, even though we only have one side of the story, it sounds to me that you are justified in feeling angry, hurt, and unwelcome. Now what do you do? I think Colleen and Rob said it best. Let your husband handle it and be supportive. Let the kids know it's ok to love their grandparents and want to see them. Enable the family to come together, but don't be the instigator. Stick to your guns, only you know what is healthy for your family, and I wish you the best....See MoreHelp-Should we make this last minute Drastic change?
Comments (14)Thank you so much lavender! You beat me to it! I've been spending all morning trying to figure this out and I added them to my photobucket account, rotated them and was returning to do a test run. I so appreciate your help! As a new iPad user, I had no idea that pictures would appear in any other form other than how they display on the preview when drafting a post! I appreciate it being pointed out, otherwise I would have no knowledge of the bad etiquette apparently being posed on people here to help. I try to be patient with people when they are trying new things, especially here, we know humans are just that and sometimes need a little patience, guidance, and yes, help, in a lot of instances! Thanks again lavenderlass. Seems like the consensus is to move the freezer, although in this lengthy DIY project I hesitate to add more work but DH is willing, and I would rather get it right than have regrets. After all, we are never doing this again! Thanks for all your input! If anyone has any more suggestions, I'm certainly open to any and all!...See MoreAntique Chinese screen. Should we make into a TV screen?
Comments (24)Why would one keep the screen or cabinet door open when not in use. I am of the opinion that television screens are not attractive. Many people go to lengths to hide them including cabinets with lifts that go up or down so the television is not on view when not in use. I deliberately built a cabinet to hold my television during my remodel which acts as a large room divider between my office and the more formal part of my living room. It has what I call a stripper pole television so the television can be viewed from both sides and there are doors on both sides to disguise it when not in use. There is a television on the market which looks like a large frame - literally - and so it displays a piece of art/photo of your choice. So it looks like framed art instead of a television when not in use. My bedroom has a standard wall hung television but that's my private area with the wall visible from the bed. People routinely pull drapes or shades up or down and perform other acts so not sure why shutting a cabinet door is more of an issue. Is this screen in fact a rare antique. There are a lot of reproductions of items or even vintage items that are not particularly valuable and it's not necessarily a blasphemy to alter them from their original purpose. For me, it's solely an economic, functional and aesthetic decision. If the screen isn't worth thousands of dollars why not convert to a use that is both functional and aesthetic....See MoreShould we make the bar or the back wall the focal point of this area?
Comments (2)Not sure about focal. Perhaps the entire bar area will be the focal point especially since it serves a specific purpose. The ceiling beams distracts from the bar area but unless you are willing to spend money to have it raised into the floor system there's not much to be done about that. Would love to see the lay-in ceiling replaced with a gyp. board or wood ceiling. Also, at some point, would suggest replacing the carpeting with hardwood or vinyl flooring....See Morerivkadr
