Deferring Deferred Payment Plans

Posted by dan_dhrt (dan@dailyhomerenotips.com) on

We never knew this, but we made a purchase at a major retailer on a 12 month no intereste no payments type of plan.

When their product was 3 months late in arriving, we were able to have the 12 month plan deferred by 3 months, i.e. the start of the 12 months actually began the day the purchase arrived.

We did complain about this when we made the purchase initially but were told all plans start on the purchase date, not delivery date.

And, apparently the adjustment to the start date is very common so we were told when we complained with the delayed delivery.

We did have to take the initiative and complain to the retailer's customer service folks, but we did get it.

Who knew? :-)

You are welcome, ole joyful.

I never would have even known the relative frequency that at least some national retailers actually do that.

I found a post on our blog from this past January that describes the situation. I'll post the link below in case anyone wants to read more details on our situation.

Cheers,
Dan

That only makes sense. Don't warranties begin after you take delivery, too?

Our car came with a four year warranty. We bought it 'used' (2K miles) six months after it was titled by a dealer. The clock on the warranty started when it was titled. We don't put much mileage on a car, so will probably be able to extend the warranty twice for very little (four more years, total) before we're ready to trade it in or sell it. (Easier to sell while it still has some warranty; warranty doesn't matter if we're trading in for the same make. )

Some of us are more willing to gripe about terms than are others.

But if more people "like you" shared stories like your's, the consumptive public might benefit greatly.

Another example of a saying that I've heard, and repeated on these fori (plural of "forum", I believe),

"If you don't ask - you don't get".

I checked the website that Dan gave for his email ... and found it quite interesting ... for those of you considering home renovation, or interested in energy saving and environmental concerns - including a solar-powered lawnmower.

hmmm...I thought I had posted this before...but see I didn't.

Did you get that in writing? I don't trust anyone in customer service to get it 'right' any more.

I just wrote an email of complaint to the Contact Us Customer Service link for the United States Postal Service, and though I was clear in what I said, I received two email responses that looked as if they had not even read my email, much less given it any thought to it before responding. Their last response was to give me an address (not an email address) to write to that someone can either fix the system, or correct the instructions on it. I will be writing them as well as including copies of my 3 emails, and their 3 replies that accomplished nothing other than finally giving me an address to write to.
