Bank 1098 Error - What Would You Do?
| | |
Posted by clg7067 (My Page) on Tue, Feb 2, 10 at 10:10
| My mortgage company is gone and my account transferred to another company mid-year. Somehow, a month of interest was omitted from the 1098 for the old company. I figured this out last night and I am planning to call the issuer of the incorrect 1098 to see about getting this corrected. I'm thinking this is not going to be easy, but I'll try. It will give me an additional $138 of refund. But I'm wondering if it's going to drag on and not be worth the trouble.
What would you do? |

| For 138 bucks, i'd call them twice a day, and it really should be easy..Even if you need to show them the last statement from the old company to prove it,it should be a simple matter |

| Unfortunately, there was never a statement issued for the missing month. I discovered the error because of the 1098 seemed too low and I added up the 11 months I knew of. I will be phoning them in a few minutes and see if they have a clue. |

| Well, the bank says they know of the mistake and I should have a new form in a week or so. Whew! |

| Well, time will tell. It's not over 'til it's over. |

| You probably have but double check to see if the rest of that missing months payment went where it should have. You might want to ask for something for your accounting records showing the amounts owed when the company closed it's books on your account. |
