Decision Needed - $60,000 payout

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if I'm looking at this accurately and would appreciate any and all suggestions.

I found out today my monthly annuity will be $500 less a month (gross) unless I buy back service time to the tune of $60,000. I can buy this amount back by taking the needed $60,000 from my husband's retirement trust (federal and state taxes would need to be paid on this amount).

My hubby and I have talked about this at length this evening. My thought is the $500 loss a month is much less than the amount of money we earn on the $60,000 in his retirement trust each year so we're leaning toward taking the $500 loss.

It would take me 10 years to see the $60,000...if I left that money in his retirement account we would earn far more than $60K.

How do you really look at this? I'm financially-thinking challenged!

P.S. We can live just fine without the $500 a month and just about as equally well with the $60K from his retirement, but we want to make the smartest decision...Any help????
