 o
child tax credit for veteran on disability and social security

Hello. DH is on 100% disability from the VA and also collects social security. I am a homemaker with no income. Would our two children make us eligible for the tax credit, even though we pay no taxes? Thank you.

How old are the children?

The child tax credit is refundable under some circumstances. eg the IRS can send you a check. If you do your own taxes, you'll need IRS form 8812. The rules seem a bit complicated though so you might want to have a professional look at your taxes at least once.

Many of the tax prep companies offer discounted services to vets. If you don't have money for that, you should check out the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. They have a whole section devoted to military personnel.

Form 8812, Additional Child Tax Credit

Form 8812 is used to figure the additional child tax credit. This additional child tax credit may give you a refund even if you do not owe any tax.

And I hope you and the 2 children have filed for Social Security as dependents/ auxilliaries (mother with children under age 16 and dependent chilren). These benefits will add up to 50% to the amount of SS your hubby gets.
