Caregiver Wife And Nervous Breakdown
Comments (2)This is a terrible situation to be in. It does sound as if your wife is deeply depressed and breaking down under the strain. Unfortunately, when people are depressed they aren't very rational and it can be extremely challenging to change fixed notions. You are lucky that it appears your in-laws are encouraging your wife to get away for a while. You might have some luck if you remind your wife that her collapse in her parents' home is adding to their pain and burden. Ironically, by pushing herself to the breaking point, she is now making their lives more difficult by adding one more point of concern. This argument might get some traction with her as it's a form of selfishness she might not have sufficiently considered. If you can talk her out of the country, then her time with you is an ideal opportunity to come up with an action plan that's more balanced and manageable before she returns. Your MIL's treatment center should be able to suggest respite resources to assist. It is crucial your wife schedule breaks in her duties. Otherwise she's no good to her parents or to herself. You have my sympathy. It must be incredibly difficult for you to be so far away, unable to offer the support you so badly want to provide....See MoreTell me I'm normal.Almost done but daily breakdowns fm stress
Comments (19)I think part of the reason that all of this is so stressful is that "most people" dont get it, and so it is hard to vent anywhere but here. My friends are so polite, and so supportive, but I can still see in their eyes that they "dont get it." My boyfriend has slowly come to realize that though he doesn't get it (doesn't get the stress, and doesn't get why each decision and each hurdle I jump means so much), he's better off being quietly supportive. I just about died the day that the hood went in, and he walked through the door, and just said "huh- it's crooked" and then was not happy with the buttons. I think when I told him that he was welcome to pick out a new one if he wanted to buy it, he realized he'd taken the wrong tactic. :) It is stressful to have your house torn apart, to have to make a ton of decisions, and to worry about the money you might be wasting if those decisions are wrong. People with GC's and a crew have to deal with one type of stress, and DIY-ers have to worry about no hand holding or bail-outs. I'm doing a bit of each, and I'm glad for the balance, really. So no, you are not alone. Like everything else worthwhile, a big remodel comes with a cost. But think about what you'll have in the end!!!!!!...See MoreFirst big remodel job - kitchen - and having a nervous breakdown!
Comments (7)It's so much easier to get input if you have pictures to post and also a rough diagram on paper of your layout. There are so many talented people on this forum and I'm betting you will gets tons of advice. First, read the thread "Read me if you're new to GW kitchens" by beuhl. As you scroll down, there's a section that tells you how to upload and post pictures. You open a free account with a site like photobucket.com, upload your pictures to that site, click on the picture's HTML code to copy, then you paste that in the body of the message. Numbers/letters will appear and when you click on preview your picture should show up in the message body. Then if it's all good, hit submit and there it is!! Sounds a lot harder than it is. Your kitchen sounds very nce from your descriptions. Can visualize stainless and antique bronze. If you could post pics of a piece of your tile/floor, a picture of your granite, the cabinets, and the marble the experts here can help with the backsplash. My advice, without seeing any pictures, would be to pick a nice, warm tan/cream color that would look nice with the granite and cabs. Or maybe a light gold?? So many things you could do. What colors are in the marble?? Take a deep breath-you seem to be doing just fine and you will have lots of support here. Glad to hear you are ok. We had friends who worked in the WTC and they got out in time too....See MoreEnlighten me. Cost breakdown of small full bathroom remodel?
Comments (42)Rebeccamom - My project is scheduled for just after Labor Day. I had to move it out because of work and a family vacation. The extra time has been really great for sourcing and research and I would strongly encourage a 4-6 month window if at all possible. It seems there are so many decisions to be made in a bathroom reno. As far as measurements, my bathroom is a bowling alley! 4.5 feet wide by 11 feet long, not including the shower which is 4 X 2.75 off the long wall. Just to clarify, the $10K estimate is for labor only. I'm trying not to add up the cost of materials as I acquire them. It's painful having expensive taste on a middle class budget!...See Morerjexit5
