Newer home (2001), 2900 sq ft., north of Chicago

Gas (estimated, not actual read): $451

Elec. (actual read): $193

Unusually cold winter. Christmas lights. Rate increases!

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

ah, i forgot about xmas lights, that explains the higher electric costs..Thanks chisue!!!!

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

same as on the other post...

gas: $170
electric: $90

Outside of Pittsburgh PA
2400 sq ft and COLD here!

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

Last bills - $33.64 electric - we have some of the cheapest (if not thee cheapest) electric rates in the country.

$197.80 gas

Approx. 1850 sq. feet in less than tropical Duluth, MN.

Bills for the Christmas lights season and the blistering cold snap with nights to -40 and days a balmy -10 haven't come yet... but I expect them soon along with a jump.

Schools, some businesses and all the ski hills are closed. Ran an errand yesterday AM when it was still -20; my fingers were blanched in less than a minute since the gloves I grabbed were a bit inadequate. It's so cold here you don't realize you're freezing to death. Mercifully, it's too cold to snow!

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

gas: $47.36

elec: $28.85

Kansas

2800 sq ft

I keep the basement vents open in the winter and close them in the summer.

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

Bills coming in next week.

Here's a state-by-state electric rate comparison. I guess it's just our clean living. The two states where we have homes are 2nd & 3rd most expensive on the list.

Here is a link that might be useful: Electric Rates (as of July 2008)

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

$150 electric (1,246 KWH). Texas. 2,550 sq. ft.

No gas.

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

Because rates can vary so much, I'd think that messages including usage (kW, therm, etc.) would be more useful than just dollar amounts.

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

Sunny Arizona.

Total electric ( heat pump ) $83.00 1600 sq.'

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

Electric (847 KWH) 104.73
Gas (143) 188.76
Northwestern Tenn./abt 2000 sq ft.

1pm here today's temp is 16 degrees-our high is supposed to be 20. Unusually cold, but we have been having these cold spells frequently this winter.

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

Pacific Northwest, 3200 sq ft living space, 2 adults

elec - $112/mo (it's a budget payment plan that averages the cost over the year)

propane - averages $65/mo (water htr, cooktop)

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

the bills and sq. footage is what interests me, my thinking is the cost of living comparison. Mine were cheaper than most and I do not keep the thermostat on a low setting like some do. If I take a nap in my easy chair i cover with a throw, but do not do that to watch TV.

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

Coastal NC, 2400 sq. ft, heat pump
Last electric bill was app. $200, a little more than usual because of the Christmas lights. We had a pretty warm month.
We only use gas for the gas logs in the fireplace & maybe use $10/month during the winter. I don't know exactly because it's not filled monthly.

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

1800 Sq Ft Lou, KY Electric $46.64 Gas $185.68

I've been in the same home for over ten years and this is the first time I've ever topped more than $200.00. Can't blame the Christmas lights.....an extended 10 day "staycation" meant the gas heat was on for longer time periods.

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

2400 sq ft. Last electric (no gas, no water, no sewer), $113. We do have solar panels - before we got those, the same bill would have been $350+. Over the 5 years we have had the solar panels. they have more than paid for the cost.

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

2100 sq ft, $206 for both gas and electric. I'm in the Seattle/Tacoma area. This is only the second time my bill's been over $200; gas prices did increase during this billing period. And I never have my thermostat turned up higher than 68 degrees...

 o
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

~2400 sq ft, with 2 central HVAC systems and the last electric bill was 372.00. but that was because up until last Monday someone has been home 24x7 with the new baby since November. She started daycare last week, so our bill should be dropping again as i was able to set the stats to shut back all day long like i usually do. our only gas is for the dryer, no need for any more LP until probably summer as the tank has plenty in it.

BTW, our rate is right around .11 per kwh with the current fuel surcharges.

RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

Oops. I posted this in the thread by the same name on the Money Saving Forum but am copying here because I really need to know if others have billing that reads like this.

I've always used their budget billing before, but switched to actual so I can get a better handle on what we're really using at the time.

Total $268. Gas $205.(154therm) Elec. $62. (454kwh)
Upstate NY 1668sf colonial
Around here there is a delivery charge of $20+ whether you use gas or not! Learned that selling a completely empty house with nothing turned on during the summer!

Our bills are so convoluted. Delivery and Supply are billed separately and at different rates for first 3 therms, etc. Do your bills look like this? I hate it.

COPIED FROM CURRENT BILL: (this is just the gas part, elec is worse--supply and delivery on different parts of bill)

Natural Gas Delivery Charges
Natural gas used (ccf) 153
Energy content factor x 1.022000
Natural gas used (therm) 156.4
Customer charge 14.38
Bill issuance charge 0.62

RE: Most recent gas and electric bill

South Central Pennsylvania, approx 2,000 square feet.

The electric usage does not include HOT WATER, HEAT (with the exception of one space heater), STOVE/OVEN nor DRYER (those items all use propane)

Our rate cap is set to expire in 2010...I'm a bit fearful as to how much electric will cost me a year from now!

From my actual electric bill:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Residential Rate: RS for Dec 16 - Jan 19
Distribution Charge:
Customer Charge 8.27
200 KWH at 2.87699900¢ per KWH 5.75
699 KWH at 2.46576400¢ per KWH 17.24
PA Tax Adj Surcharge at0.11247000% 0.05
Transmission Charge:
1,499 KWH at 0.74229300¢ per KWH 11.13
PA Tax Adj Surcharge at0.14402800% 0.02
Transition Charge:
200 KWH at 1.21132200¢ per KWH 2.42
600 KWH at 1.07388100¢ per KWH 6.44
699 KWH at 0.99188100¢ per KWH 6.93
PA Tax Adj Surcharge at0.14402800% 0.02
Generation Charge:
Capacity and Energy
200 KWH at 5.89164600¢ per KWH 11.78
600 KWH at 5.17938100¢ per KWH 31.08
699 KWH at 4.75235100¢ per KWH 33.22
PA Tax Adj Surcharge at0.14402800% 0.11
Total PPL ELECTRIC UTILITIES Charges $150.16
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And our propane usage is currently running approximately 90 gallons per month @ 2.43 a gallon (as of delivery last week) for a total of $218.70.

So to sum it up:

Electric: 150.16
Propane: 218.70
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Total: 368.86
RE: Most recent gas and electric bill
Location: Chicago
House: 1200 Sq feet, brick 2 story with newer windows.
Gas: Nicor - Jan bill $139
Electric: ComEd - Jan bill $36
Saved $10 by swapping out all already low wattage bulbs (25 to 40) with new energy saver bulbs (10 watt)in all fixtures. After 5 pm we also only have one table lamp on in the evening for light in the front room and one overhead light in the kids room on until bedtime. All other lights are kept shut off unless needed for things like cooking.
It's an older house, 1967, & we definitely need new windows (& a new roof). We upgraded the furnace in 2005.
