Have any of you opened an account at subject on-line bank (ing.com), and if so, what has been your experience. Their brochure indicate they pay 2.35% on savings accounts.

I have had an account with them for several years. Excellent experience. I even got a $50 bonus for opening the account. Last year, I discovered Virtual Bank paid a little more so I moved some money for our remodel over there. Excellent experience too!

It's a Dutch based bank, I understand.

People around here use them. I think that they are satisfied.

In their advertising in this area they claim that there are no fees.

You must have a bank chequing (U.S. "checking") account in order to send the money to them, though I suppose that they would accept a postal money order, etc. - which fee, plus stamp, will eat up a major portion of the interest premium that you'd get on small amounts.

They send a cheque when you ask for withdrawal.

I bank at a small (2 branches) local savings and loan. DH banks at a different bank. A little off topic, but yes, we do keep our money separate (and because of it, have never, in over 30 years of marriage, ever had a single argument about money!) I have several accounts. They're all free at my bank, anyway. 3 money market accts that I can write checks on--one for household bills, one is some of my savings so they're accessible if I need them (wrote the check for my new car on that account), and one is joint with my DD--orginally was for her college bills. Now, it's more of a convenience, if she needs to borrow money or if there would be an emergency. Also have several passbooks (one is some inheritance $$$ that we put aside; one is my pension fund that I took out when I was riffed from a teaching job, one is general savings). And I have several CD's for longterm savings. I like to have a bunch of those, of different lengths, that come due at different times of the year. I also have money that I've won (I've had a bit of luck with recipe contesting). I never spend winnings, and keep them totally separate from everything else. My point is, you can set up your banking however you choose. If you want separate passbooks (or money market accounts) for each goal, by all means tell the bank that's what you want. If they give you a hard time, maybe you're not banking at the right place. I personally like to keep things organized in separate accounts--nothing makes seeing exactly what you have for each goal easier, IMO. But really, what's right for me, or someone else isn't nearly as important as what's right for you. Take some time, and figure out what kind of system will work best for you and your family, then set it up that way. No one answer is right for everyone. And remember, most times, if you want to make changes in your investments down the road, you should be able to do so, so you don't have to have the exact right answer this minute. Set up what you think will work, then as you need to, re-evaluate and make adjustments. Good luck.

The Aloe is likely a hybrid. The Euph. looks to possibly be a monstrose form of some sp.. 6. I think is a Gymnocalycium sp. 7. Looks like an Aeonium in form. Some sedums have this form, but are usually not this large. 8. You may be able to I.D. this Mammillaria at the CactiGuide site. Look for Mamms that bifurcate vs. ones that stay single. It looks like a common one so you should be able to find it. Sorry I don't have any complete I.D.'s but maybe the leads will help.

Love them. I've had my accts open for at least 2 years, & have had no problems. Be sure you look into a bonus for opening your acct. (just search the web, I'm sure you'll find something) I rec'd $25 when I opened my acct. I then "invited" each of my young children to join. Even though I linked their accts to my checking, they each recieved $25 for opening an acct, & I rec'd $10 for each also, as the person who invited them. I then asked a couple of friends, and rec'd $10 for each of them! That's $150 free money - yippee!!! (you do need to wait a month to transfer this money out of your acct, if you so wish) It is a breeze to open new accts & you can give them nicknames, so you can easily see what you're saving for. It does take a few days to transfer money back & forth between the ING account & your checking acct.

I've have a couple Ing accounts, saving for various things. No problems at all. I'm pleased with them.

You worte "I don't like earning interest, for several reasons, which I've outlined elsewhere here." Can you tell me where you posted this? I know that you wrote about your ideas for paying for food, tables, cars etc., but I failed to find where you wrote about your dislike for
"interest and why". I'm interested in learning more about what is availbable in Canada in "tax deferred plans". Do you recomend any of them and if so, why?
