WANTED: newbee..knitting hat pattern using quick and thick yarn

Hello...I am new to knitting and this forum.

All the people here seem like experienced knitters. I made a scarf using Lion brand Thick and quick yarn...using simple k1, p1. Now I would like to make a matching hat. Does anyone have a simple hat pattern? How can I reduce stitches at the top of the hat?
