I think there are several factors working here. I think using the mist just to cool it down is making it too moist as one person said. Also, I'm sure it is still getting too hot. Orchids like good air movement, and if all you have ius a small fan in the wall, that might not do it. You have been given a lot of good ideas already. I'd think backwards on this. How much did this greenhouse cost you, and how much room in your yard do you have for doing this hobby/business? I have been growing some plants in homemade greenhouses for 19 years now and for what you might have paid for the greenhouse, you could probably make something like Gary mentioned. The wood frame covered with 5 year poly works real well. I roll up the sides during the year and only close it down during the winter, and still I also have vents to open after every morning it is closed down. I remember one day when it was 50 outside at 1pm, it got 125 inside. The plastic was puffing out like a ballon and when I opened a vent, it was like a 30 mph wind coming out. Anyway, bigger fans would be good for orchids and maybe hold off on all the extra moisture for cooling which might have a tendancy to rot more than help. I am familiar with Bunnell, I have made 2 presentations there in the last year. It is cold at times, but the home made greenhouses would work good there. I had 21 last season and have hade 19 since I built my first greenhouse and my tender plants have come through nicely. There is so much that can be said about this subject, but I guess thats my fast 2 cents, I have to go out and spray some roundup, weeds are getting too tall.

Pug, it was about a week for those roots. Jsainz, it does not say that it has rooting hormones in it, but it does say not to use with rooting hormones. I mispoke - it's best used with softwood cuttings and leaf cuttings. Does say on the box that the gel doesn't need to be washed off, but because I plant in hydroton I probably still will wash it off. Put a couple of other cuttings in it- thomsonii and sadly I can't remember what the other one is even after looking at the leaf again!

My experiment used the powder. I mixed up some Woods Rooting solution and added it to the dry powder to make the gel out of the powder. It's sort of like jello that has barely begun to set. Last year I hydrated the large crystals to make jello-like globs, put it in a closeable deli container, sprinkled some penstemon seeds on the surface, closed the container and the seeds germinated. No near neighbors so I just mess around to amuse myself. Nothing happening yet on the hydrangeas but the leaves still look very fresh. So, I'm hoping. Tomorrow I'll be adding a weak soluable fertilizer solution to some of the large crystals and mix it into the planting holes of some things I'm putting into several beds. Another experiment. Somebody stop me!
