In need of a great workout!!

We are in need of the machine that would give you the best workout. We have a treadmill and a elliptical and just want one more item. Thanks for your help!!

Sounds like you have great cardio and lower body. What are you doing for upper body and strength? The answer to that question may guide your decision.
You could think about a rowing machine, but weights, resistance might be better.

Have you thought about doing body weight exercises?

THIS workout did wonders for my upper body strength!

Busylizzy I'm glad your tendonditis pain has settled down- yikes! I'm using those band thingies too, aren't they cool? Ohsillyme- heels on concrete floors? You really are a seedaholic too! :) Yes, when you're bending down to look at the bottom row it is a precarious position to be in. I've almost tipped over a few times LOL! Thanks Teequiltbarbie! I am pretty darned proud of myself and deserve to treat myself to seeds instead of cigs! Only problem is that some of those seeds are more expensive than the smokes at times- but I'm worth it! Have not heard of "Veria", but I am doing a Tai Chi beginners thing that I get on Comcast on Demand Fitness tv. I was amazed at how many exercise programs they have for FREE! Congrats on your lack of cigs too and the Yoga! It's soooo hard to quit and then stick to exercise, but I feel better daily so it's all good. I want to stick around to be winter sowing a LONG time. :)

yeah I agree, it's just a lot easier to download from itunes then mess around with other stuff..... If you're looking for workout/gym music on itunes, hereÂs a shortcut -- type "EURO CLUB HITS" into to search.... look for the album series with the big black logo and the different colored backgrounds...

I wear SkirtSports and Athleta running skorts for running and working out. For me the length is perfect - long enough to wear out to the grocery store w/o feeling skimpy. The built in compression shorts on the SkirtSports brand have pockets on either thigh where I store my car key and my iPod or anything else I need to carry. I also have a few things from lululemon that I love. I mostly wear skorts for working out now b/c I don't feel funny wearing them out in public. I don't like wearing tights/compression gear if I'm running errands. SkirtSports also has a longer skirt that I wouldn't wear for exercising as it's a tad too long, but it's great for running errands. In cooler months, I wear the LottaBreeze Capri style (capri w/skirt over top). For winter, I wear insulated running tights that have a built in skirt from Athleta or I wear Under Armour Cold Gear tights with a separate skirt from Athleta over top to cover my arse. Once I discovered skirts/skorts, I rarely ever wear workout shorts anymore (the compression shorts underneath prevent chafing). Here is a link that might be useful: Skirt Sports

I'm with those who've suggested creating a dual-purpose room. It sounds like you would use the crafting/project space, so why not set up half the room (or at least a corner) with a work space for yourself, and find some (gently used) fitness equipment your husband wants? Then you could see how you end up using the room before devoting more space than necessary to one purpose or the other. When I'm ready for another area to have to clean and maintain (which won't be for at least a couple of years), we'll finish our basement. We have the floor plan roughly worked out, and one room will be a combined fitness and project room. Right now the fitness stuff is set up in a corner of the unfinished basement and only sees use on the coldest mornings of the year, or occasionally when the kids are playing down there and it's too hot to run outside. I'm not sure it will get much more use even when finished as I'd much rather be outside moving around, but it's nice to have during periods of extreme weather. My sewing machine is now in a corner of our bedroom that's not ideal, but better than having it shut up somewhere. Projects end up all over the house, spread out in the living room or dining room. There's a kids craft table spackled and ready to be sanded sitting in the middle of the living room as I type. I know I would use a project space if I had a designated one, but the thought of having to clean (and decorate!) the basement when I'm still working on the main floors is too much for me at the moment.

I love tennis as well. I've always mixed that with stretching and light weights. More recently, I started doing yoga. It is fantastic for an aging body. Although I'mm a self-graded "C" student, I feel so good afterwards. The stretching and balance poses are "just what the doctor ordered".

If you must have a machine how about a rower for upper body, or a pilates machine for overall flexibility and toning?

but I would recommend a set of hand weights, a step and a variety of videos -- I am still fond of "The Firm" series, but there are lots of free workouts available online. Definitely include a good stretching routine.

Coming into this thread very late (but better late than never). There is a great program on many PBS stations, and is also available in video format as well as a (paid) streaming online format: Classical Stretch. I love this workout for no-impact aerobics, stretching and strengthening of the entire body. Each workout is about 23 minutes long. In our area (San Diego) it runs at 5 am, but I just DVR the show and do the workout later. I've also purchased a couple of seasons, so that I can do those on weekends. I do this workout about 6 days a week, sometimes 7.
