mia fennigan air glider??

Hi! I've decided to buy this glider over the Gazelle.. or at least, am REALLY considering it. But, i want to know if doing 30 mins on this of running pace would reap the same benefits as going out for a real jog/run. Are there any pro's/con's with this machine?

(The cheapest I've found it is $100, plus $30 shipping..)

I have a calorie gage on mine (XL-Glider), it tells me what I am burning. It indicates that I burn more with more extension (full spread leg glide). I know that I could never use the muscles that I can on my glider just running or walking. I have a kinda "routine" that makes me use my buttocks, calves, inner-thighs, outter thighs, and upper arms (upper body). I get a nice tight feeling in the calves and thighs if I elevate my feet a bit and stand on toes. Did you get the video?

Hi, I agree with Jainie! I also have the xl glider and I use it every day for 45 minutes. I would never work up the sweat I do with the glider by walking or jogging!
I to use different routines and I just love it!

Mia, You can relax. Y'all are safe from further photos. When God passed out the photography gene and the technology gene, I was out playing in the garden and missed out on both. As Carol noted, my adult son took the photos. He not only took them, but he also uploaded them (or whatever you call it) to his photobucket account. Then, he emailed them to me one by one so I could save them on my computer. Then he emailed me a document that said "How To Post Photos On Gardenweb". I thought it would be something that actually told me how to post photos, but it was just six URLs--two for each of the three photos. He said for me to try the first group and if they didn't work, then to use the second group. Well, the first group of URLs didn't work, but the second one did. So, the extent of my involvement in the whole thing, other than lining up all the tomatoes on the little table and then putting them back into bowls to carry back into the kitchen afterwards, was to cut and past the photo URL into the box that says Optional Link URL. I have so much trouble doing anything on a computer that I was sure it wouldn't work, but it did. Maybe one day I will master the art of taking and posting photos, but generally I don't even have the patience or the time to try to do it. When Chris tries to explain it to me verbally, his words go in one ear, scramble themselves up in my brain, and become virtually indecipherable. Then they fly out of my other ear and I do not remember one word he said. I think I have technology dyslexia. Remember in all the Charlie Brown/Peanuts television cartoons that when the adults speak, the kids hear something like "wank wank wank wank wank"? Well, that's what my brain hears when anyone tries to tell me how to do anything involving a computer, a smartphone (my phone is smarter than me), or a camera. I am the only person in the world who goes into a phone store and says "I want a phone that is just a phone. I don't want a phone that has a camera or internet service or anything else. I just want a telephone." When my last little Motorola Razor phone died about a year ago, my former daughter-in-law gave me her old smartphone and it is too smart for me but I guess I am stuck with it now. Tim and Chris keep telling me I am eligible for a phone upgrade and should get a newer, better smartphone with more capability. My answer to them is "why?". That leaves them stumped because they know I use my phone mostly for phone calls and text messages so a fancier phone that does cool stuff still would be underutilized by me. Anyhow, what y'all have to understand about me and "time" in the summer harvest season is that I have a big harvest of something, like the Saturday tomato harvest, at least a couple of times a week. I then work frantically in the kitchen trying to preserve however much of it we cannot eat fresh. By the time I have cleared counter space in the kitchen and can breathe a sigh of relief, it is time to harvest again. In the last two weeks, we have had multiple harvests of onions, summer squash/zucchini, plums and green beans that equal or exceed the amount of tomatoes shown on that table, so I am always severely time challenged at a time when I actually probably would enjoy taking and posting photos of all the bounty from the garden if only I had the time to learn how to do it and then to do it. I do not yet know what 2012's harvest will be like overall, but so far it resembles 2010, when I spent probably at least six straight weeks processing food, mostly via dehydrating and canning, for about 18 hours a day every day. In either 2008 or 2009 there was one horrible week when I actually counted the peppers piled up all over the house awaiting processing and there were 1800. Now, at least 600 to 800 of those were tiny bird peppers and all I did with them was wash them and put them in the dehydrator, but dealing with the rest of the peppers took a couple of weeks of hard labor and, in the meantime, I was continuing to harvest more. Today I am supposed to harvest zucchini and summer squash from my 33 plants (saturation planting was my goal this year and I'll have to explain that later 'cause the tomatoes in the kitchen are calling to me and telling me I need to get busy canning them), green beans from the white half-runners, cukes from the pickling cucumber plants (guess what that means?), and harvest tomatoes again because they are ready today and ripe tomatoes won't wait. I also need to harvest jalapeno peppers. Oh, and dig potatoes. And lay out the drip irrigation lines in the whole garden, weed and mulch the mid-season and late-season corn, and spray the tomato plants with Daconil. Other than that, I have nothing to do today except we need to mow and weedeat 3 or 4 acres in an effort to chase away grasshoppers that prefer tall grass and predator animals that like to remain hidden in it. The downside to cutting the tall grass is that then the bobcats jump the garden gate and hide in/under the tomato plants where they scare the you-know-what out of me when I see them there. Tim and I joke that we've had 'new' lawn furniture for 8 years and never have sat on the chairs or the glider. That's not much of an exaggeration, but the cats love the lawn furniture and sit on it all the time, and our 120-lb. Rottweiler sits/lays on the garden park-style bench all the time. It is now his bench and not mine. Carol, It is a ridiculous amount of tomatoes to have at once. We cannot possibly begin to even eat one of each variety fresh before they get overripe. I've given away about 7 gallons of them so far, and today I am dehydrating the bite-sized ones and turning the others into yummy tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes or strained puree. Maybe I'll make salsa. The possibilities or limitless, though the time available is not. I hope your tomato harvest comes in soon. I know you'll have a great harvest. Y'all know mine is early because I am so far south and because I planted a month early. Keith, By now you've read my explanation to Mia about how technologically challenged I am. Nothing I said is an exaggeration. I have so much trouble with technological things that I still am amazed every time I send an email or a text message and it actually arrives at its intended destination. Every year I set a goal for myself in the garden. Really, I have two new goals every year, and I am sad to say that they are the same two new goals every year and I fail miserably at both every year. Goal #1 always, always, always is this: "This year I will spray every tomato plant with Daconil the very first day I put it into the ground, and then I will do preventive spraying with Daconial, alternating with some other fungicide, on a regular basis for the whole season." This has never happened. It never even has come close to happening, although I think I did spray my container tomato plants with copper in either 2008 or 2009 when they had Septoria Leaf Spot. In fact, I actually did buy Daconil in April 2012, about a month after the first tomato plants went into the ground, and I sincerely meant to use it. So far, it remains unopened, just sitting there on the potting bench in the potting shed like some sort of cute decorative object. I do intend (insert incredulous laughter from my husband here) to spray the tomato plants with Daconil today. The last time I bought a garden sprayer so I could spray the plants with Daconil or copper, it sat unopened in the cardboard box for two years. I hate spraying anything on my plants. I finally opened that box with the new sprayer this year and sprayed Bt on the garden when the variegated climbing cutworms were decimating my garden. The second goal is always the same: "This year I will figure out how to take photos, how to find them on the phone again after I take them, and how to transfer them to something on the computer so I can post them. Then I'll learn how to post them, and I'll do it until everyone is sick of looking at my garden." So, tell me how I am doing on that goal? (insert laughter here) If gardening required me to be high-tech, I couldn't garden. Now I am headed off to the kitchen to get out the tomato strainer and start working my way through all those bowls of tomatoes. Then, after that's done, I'm gonna go outside and pick more tomatoes and then spray my plants with Daconil. Good to see you, Raeanne! We had a wonderful trip. DH and I joined up at the spa for the 12 days to use the private therapy pool, sauna, hot tub, and steam room. It was heavenly; they even served us freshly squeezed orange juice! Let's see, I took a National Park/Island tour of Antigua, swam at Malibu Beach in Barbados, walked into town in Tortola, took a spice tour in a Best-of-Grenada day, and went whale-watching in Dominica (pronounced Dom-en-eeek'-ca ....like the Singing Nun's song!!) I saw more whales in Dominica than I did in Alaska, so that was fun. We saw a sperm whale and her baby right next to our catamaran...our captain showed us the first spout of water (momma), followed by the little spout of water (baby imitating momma!), so we followed the spouts and found them! So cute, I felt one with nature, ladies; you would all have been very proud of me! LOL!!! Back at work, my director is now flying back to the UK. He gave me rave reviews and did not flinch when I asked for a promotion! He promised to get it done if at all possible this year. With complications, he promised to get it completed next year. Fine with me; as I was ready for an argument like I got from my last director. He told me he cannot run the department without me and has suggestions for a few years down the road of transferring me up to higher management levels. Not sure I want that at my age, but the money sure looks good up there, especially as I still will no longer have to manage people...been there, hated that!!!! Good Morning! No hubba Bubba BUT I woke up to a really wonderful letter from my SO. He talked about how far we have come from our first meeting and how he loves me with all his heart. He had gotten up and cut up a bowl of fresh fruit and let it on the kitchen table with this wonderful letter. GREAT way to start the day. He had sent the most beautiful roses to my office on Friday. What I think happened is we watched Oprah the night before and her show was about the most romantic men. It must have inspired him. I feel pretty special. Now I am pissed at the DEX ( Still a swear word ). He told my DD that he was planning something special for V-day...BUT nothing happened...no phone call, email..nothing...ARRGGHHH...I hate to see her disappointmednt NHSuzanne: I hope I didn't make you feel bad by my last post. I am glad you are taking charge of all of us getting together. I am like you...and I just take charge on a lot of things...so charge away... BJ: I have been doing the same thing with cleaning. DD practices softball next to a charity store and so I made a vow to take something in there EVERY TIME we go to practice. Little by little I am declutting althought I would LOVE to have TLC's Clean Sweep come in. Our basement is a cluttered mess. I would love to turn it into an exercise room. When I was dropping off donations, I noticed a Bally Lifestepper for sale there for 35.00. I was going to get it on my next trip...BUT it was gone. Probably good because I don't know if I need another piece of equipment in the house. Raeanne: Believe it or not...I received an invitation to a wedding in LA for July 23rd. We don't know if we are going but I will keep you posted. I hope that you will be in Chicago for more than a day or so. So we shall see. IS your DD still thinking about San Diego?? Besh: I hope things are better with your DFIL and that you are happy that DH is home with you and your kids. Marci: My kids gave me another Jodi Picoult book for my birthday. I hope you and Dave are feeling well. I wish I was closer so that I could help. I don't know if I said that I was going to San Francisco for a few days. I am going to a convention for people who use Photoshop software. It is a huge event that happens twice a year. My boss is sending me there for fun to commerate my five years with her company. SO is coming with me and going to the convention too. We are staying at the very cool hotel in the art district of downtown SF. My mom is coming up from Atlanta to take care of my DD while we are gone. She is very excited and so is DD. She loves her Grandma and says she is a lot of fun. SO and I both love SF so we are very excited to go and have a mini vacation. I went and saw my best friend who was diagnosed with Breast cancer in December. They removed both breasts because of the type of cancer they discovered she had. She had the surgery last week. I was up at her home to set up her DSL service. She was very silly from all the meds they have her taking. Her DH is a trooper because she is a handful. She said she was sad because of all the people who want to help her family. She isn't used to being on the receiving end of help. She was off to get her hair frosted one more time before she loses it. She will have to have both chemo and radiation. It is so hard to watch her knowing what lies ahead. She has not lost her sense of humor though...when my daughter asked how she was feeling, she said "Just a little flat!" She then proceeded to tell my DD that "for once in our lives, my boobs are smaller than your moms!" LOLOL Well I am off...SO and I are looking at getting a new stove ( YIPPEEE ) We have had two hand me downs and I am begging for a new one that cooks evenly for a change. We are also looking at getting new family room furniture. Wooo Hooo I love getting new things Have a great day!

It sounds like you are moving yourself in and the decorating wheels are turning in your mind. That is definitely a sign that you are moving forward and putting all the awful occurrences behind you. I am not surprised; you strike me as a hopeful resilient person. Lucky you. I would take that dining set in a NY minute. I agree with you about the former owner. She does not have a clue about what has been going on around her. About your former dining chairs. Have you thought about searching a photo of one to locate another?

I've been searching all over the internet about gliders, and am really ready to buy one, too. I am really leaning towards the XL glider. I tried Tony Little's tonight at Sports Chalet, and noticed there is no resistance. What is the resistance like on the XL? I have also tried to find comparisons with Brenda Dygraf's Lifegear Walker. The biggest difference with hers is that it doesn't have any handles. It has a pad that you kind of lean on. Being only 5'1", I wonder if the pad will hit me in the chest instead of the waist, like it hits Brenda. It seems you could do more exercises with the handles, too. Any comments from you veteran gliders would be appreciated!!!

The handles help position you for upper body and enhance the cardio work out. It's like when you do aerobics, If you incorporate the arms and bring them above the waist, the better the work out. I have stopped using the resistence, I create my own resistence with different positions. Once you use it, you'll see what I mean. And the wider the glide, the more resistence. I think thats why Tony Little didn't waist his time with resistence on his model. I start out with a minimal glide to warm up. Then I go for the long strides, which works me right into a jog. I then push in my butt, and pull on the handles for Upward kicks, then push down for Outward Back kicks (becareful that nothing is in fornt of or behind the glider, I hit my dresser and put a dent in it). Then I go back to a minimal glide raising on my toes, knees bent, gradually going back to the wide glide. After about 20 min., I change positions to work on inner thighs with a scissor type movement (I do this for a whole song). Then back to the jog, a minimal, and I walk it out. (this usually takes about 30 min, but I have gone longer when I have time. I do this to music. My fav CD is Virtual Insanity by Jamiraqui. But I use others. Now that I use this, I wouldn't know what to do without it. When you get one, you'll see that your routine will change, and your body will too. I am going to start doing it in the morning and in the evening. I have more energy now. It really cuts that TV time out. I need that.

Thanks, Jainie, it really sounds like you love your glider. I am actually trying to incorporate exercise into my TV time and thought the glider would be the way to go LOL. What is the video like that comes with the XL. I am guessing that it is just an example of exercises you can do, and not a work out tape. Also, what do you think of the glider for shorter people? Do you think it will be a problem? I think not, because you could grab the handles where ever you want, not like on the Dygraf glider, which has a pad you lean into. But I'd like your opinion. If I spend as much time on the glider as I have researching it, I will be in good shape LOL!!

Hi, I am 5'2 and I have no problem with the xl glider!
I use mine every morning while I watch tv! 45 minutes really fly by and I do over 2 miles! I have never watched the video that came with my glider:( I just do my own routine! I warm up for 10 minutes and then I start jogging on it. If I get tired or bored I do grab back onto the handles and start doing varying exercises. I have lost 20 pounds in the last 2 months with it!

Thanks, Tiredmom! I was glad to hear from another "shortie". Well, my going back and forth has put me up against a wall. The XL is sold out on QVC, so it looks like I will order the Mia, since they are basically the same thing. They said they would put me on a waitlist, but it could be a long time before it comes in, and I am ready to go NOW(after about a month of looking all over the web). Are you dieting as well, or has the exercise on your glider been the only thing you have changed in the last two months. Your results are fabulous!

I have also been dieting, but I have stayed with the glider where as I don't stay with things such as Tae-bo. I just love the glider. I like to watch tv :( so I thought why not get something that I can do and watch tv at the same time, and this works great!
I was like you, I kept looking between the 2 gliders. The only reason I picked the XL is because it had more of a waranty with it! I don't think that mattered much though!
The glider makes me fee SO much better!!!

OK, now I have found the gliders on Ebay. I have never used Ebay before - another thing for me to look into. I probably should just buy a glider and be done with it so I can start watching TV and exercising!! You have been so helpful.

Hi,
With the video, I watched it twice. It had some examples of how to use it that were helpful. I don't use it to exercise by. It didn't have the scissors exercise on it that I do for the inner thighs. I got creative with the tippy toe thing. I have a full sized mirror in front of the glider in the wall, just like at the gym. It motivates me for some reason. If I can see anything jiggle, I know that I have more work to do, if I see myself sweating hard, I know I am doing a good job. Also, it helps me see if the children are too close to the foot rests (I have a 3 and 1 yr old). They always like to be where mommy is. This is one piece of equipment that I know won't gather dust like my treadmill, stepper and weight bench. Do yourself a favor and lubricate the cross sections, it will help the squeaks that can occur after prolonged use. Mine is very quiet since I enhanced it with 2 washers and some WD 40. I remember how the treadmill was so noisey. You can't even tell someone is using the glider.

I think it is up to the seller of the item on E bay? Not to sure. I have only bought new things from stores on E bay.

What have you decided?

Jainie, how long do you use yours? I need to put some WD40 on mine as it is a little noisey.

I have teenage boys that love to use it! One is a big wrestler and they have a glider in the weight room and the boys really use it a lot I guess.

OK, I just ordered the Mia from QVC. I don't want to wait for the XL to become available, and I've never done an Ebay auction before, so I just took the plunge! I also figure if I have a problem, returns or replacements will be easier throught QVC. Jainie, could you let me know how you enhanced the glider for the squeeking? I want to print that out and save it for my hubby. Also, I'd love some tips on exercises - feel free to email me privately. QVC said I should have it by 11/14. That gives me about 6 weeks before the beginning of 2002! Nancy, what diet are you following? I also have about 20 pounds to lose.

Hi Susan! I am glad you took the plunge! You are right returning it would be safer with QVC.
I have been following WW and using slimfast. Plus, yes I am bad but I have been taking stacker2. Seems to help with the extra pounds. I have really changed my diet drastically and I feel SO much better. I use to be a pop addict! No more, but I do drink tons of water through out the day.

Hey, My husband took the Allen screw out that holds the 2 bars together at the cross bend. He had a nylon washer between the bars (very thin one). He lubbed them with WD 40 and put them back together again. He worked the bars closed and open again a few time and regreased, then tightened it up. Doesn't make much noise at all now. One thing I noticed is that if you leave it up, (and don't put it away), it squeaked more. I sometimes just open and close it if it makes alittle noise again and I guess the washer spreads the lubrication around again (must have made a dry spot). We will probably relube eventually, but, the washer keeps the metal from wearing (hubby says), and can be easily replaced. I just like it quiet.
I use mine for about 30 minutes, sometimes longer, but usually 30. I don't like to use it right before I go to sleep. That tends to keep me awake. Mostly, when I get up in the morning (before breakfast), or around 8:00 at night, an hour or so after dinner.
