I love it! Now this is how koi are supposed to behave, in my opinion, and I hope eventually mine will be this friendly. My wetpets are still very shy, and merely grab their food from the surface and duck back down to the bottom. Maybe in time . . .

things you can do: the most effecive trick i use is to lace my bulb plantings with crushed oyster shell. it's sharp and critters don't like to dig through it. method: dig a trench to the right depth, sprinkle on a layer of shell, place the bulbs, cover with dirt. another layer of shell, dirt, etc. ending with a layer of shell on the top of the soil. you can get crushed oyster at most pet/feed stores, about $6 per 40 lb. bag. also, DON'T use bone meal. critters can smell it a mile away and are attracted to your plantings. modern bone meal doesn't have much nutrient value anyway, and altho there have been no problems in the us, bone meal use has been implicated in two british cases of mad cow disease. clean up every scrap of bulb debris after planting, including any pieces of papery outer skin. for extra protection, lay an old screen over planted bulbs. you can remove it in spring.

First, congratulations to Canada for their very gracious hosting of the Olympics and their ability to take many glitches in stride. As for those girls, I think it was bad judgment to celebrate there, the beer and cigars should have been left in the locker room and then there would be no contention. However, girls that age very often display poor judgment, as do girls/women/boys/men of all ages. Of all the things that happen in the Olympics, that's one of the issues that didn't cause me to do any more than shake my head and think that Ashley probably would have done the same thing.
