I need help on planning a 60th bday party for my father

Since I have never thrown a party for adults, lol, I have 3 kids. I would like some ideas on the 60th bday party theme. We (my sis and I ) would like to have heavy hordeovrs (sp) and plan on inviting 50-75 people with RSVP required. I need ideas on decorations and favors, food, and invitations etc. Any and all ideas would be appreciated, i will have a mixture of people there, co-workers, church members and family

Don't know if you can use this in some way, but for each of my parents' 70th birthdays I made a list of 70 Things I Learned from my Father (Mother). Because your father is special to this mixed group of people, I'd concentrate on ways to allow people to express what he means to them.

For my FIL's 60th birthday, someone videotaped most of the party. I admit that at the time we thought it was not a great idea and couldn't figure out why on earth my MIL insisted on doing it. Within three years, our FIL lost both parents and two friends who were at that party. That video tape becasme a real treasure. It sounds a little macabre, but something to consider.

I'm trying to remember the decorations. I think she used various old photos of him, did the favors in his college colors (he's still a big fan of the college team) and because of the number of guests, had food in several areas as well as passed around to keep any bottlenecks to a minimum. She also did the heavy appetizer selections as a dessert bar.
