How far in advance can you bake...

Posted by NotEnoughRoses (My Page) on

decorated sugar cookies?
decorated gingerbread cookies?
chocolate crinkle cookies? (cocoa cookie with powdered sugar)
fudge?
chocolate truffles?

I am planning our first holiday party in over 8 years and my brain is soft on how far in advance I can start my baking. We have a little one - almost one years old - that I need to plan my baking schedule around. Party is Saturday - I am wanting to bake as much as possible Saturday/Sunday prior. Is that too early? (Six to seven days early.)
Any organizational tips to share? Thanks ~ Suzie

I'm a cookie baker, and in my opinion, all the cookies except Chocolate Krinkles can be baked a week in advance if stored in airtight (!) containers.

I don't know why the CK can't be baked ahead, but as many times as I've made them, I find them not very fresh-tasting after a couple of days...? They always seem to be dried out and stale no matter how I store them.

You could make some even further ahead if you have freezer space. I usually make fudge for the holidays several weeks in advance and freeze it.
