Help w/ church gathering

Posted by chrisgrav (My Page) on

A few family members are hosting a small reunion to share our church history. We are inviting some of the elders of the church to share their memories and stories of our church from awhile back. We are doing a potluck dinner but I need some creative ideas for invitations, decorations, party favors, etc. I would love to hear any of your ideas related to this kind of event.

Thanks,
Christy

Do you have a picture from when the church was first put built? These would be wonderful on the invitations. A church directory of the charter members on a poster board. First wedding , baptism , first communion or confession of faith in the church. Candles are always a great centerpeice and decoration. I will think on this one, sounds like it will be nice!

A theme to carry through might be "Ringing Thru The Years" OR "For Whom The Bell Tolled"...with a church steeple & bell as the key design.

Invites:
Cut card stock in the shape of the steeple, adding a gold or silver bell (sticker) inside the steeple's arched opening (the belfry). The bottom half of invite would be rectangular card size to print the invite.

Centerpieces
Using styrofoam sheets-cut 2 rectangular pieces to make a peaked roof-beveling the adjoining edges so they fit together...affix with glue or toothpicks. Prior to joining together-use a blunt edged tool (end of a mixer's beater?) to carve shingles in the styrofoam. Then using a quart or half gallon cardboard milk container-make an upsidedown "V" notch in on the bottom of the 2 sides of the container, so it sets snug on the styro roof. Cut out an arched belfry on the front & back of container. Prime paint the container, then use a semi gloss white paint to cover it. You can buy gold or silver 2" bells at a wedding cake supply store (or craft store), wire it to a piece of tiny chain & glue the chain into the inside peak in the belfry. You could set this on a 'cloud' of blue angel hair type material.

Favors:
A 2" bell with a piece of satin ribbon run thru the loop & tied into a bow-add a small safety pin to the back (or glue a pinback to it)...for lapel pins for the guests.

A laminated bookmarker as a party favor works great!

Create a bookmarker that is approx 7 to 8 inches long and approximately 3 inches wide. The top of the bookmarker could be the picture as it was when it was first started and the bottom of the bookmarker place a pic of the church as it stands today...or vice versa. Type information in columun form telling when the church first began and so on. This makes a great take home favor for everyone. It's something they can keep! The pics don't have to be color. Actually, if the photos are black and white it costs less to copy. Our local KINKOS copying place was a great and reasonable place. You can run the copies yourself, cut them out and laminate. Everything can be done at the KINKOS. Good luck!
