Sterno setup on granite island

I'm having a party for 20 next week, which I'm having catered. I want to put all the hot food on my granite island so people can serve themselves. Should I cover the granite with something before I put the trays and sterno? I get a little paranoid about ruining the granite.

Maybe you could call the manufacturer or a place that sells granite? I wish I could help you. (I also wish I had a granite island!)
