We did a "MidSummer's Night" Dream last summer....on the 21st of June! It was a couples party and we used invitations printed with a moon and star motif. The tables were decorated with sheer and lace cloths and had star garland and star confetti down the center of the tables. I also gathered all candleholders that had a star motif, and put tea lights all around the house and outside. I used plain cream colored napkins with gold stars stuck on the corners. For favors, we gave the ladies glass bead bracelets that I made, and had a moon/star charm hanging from them. The fellows got star shaped cookies wrapped in saran and tied with gold and silver curly ribbon. It was a fun evening for senior adult couples...they really had a ball.

    Jaybird that sounds delightful.
I especially liked the favors. What lady wouldn't love a
bracelet adorned with the moon and stars on it and men love sweets.

I was thinking I would have a welcome spring garden party.
    Maybe a butterfly theme.

Your Welcome Spring theme is great! Some ideas for this might include:

Pastel colors for your tablewear, linens, etc.

At each guest's place setting-you could put a small pot of hyacinths (sp?) and a pair of garden gloves, as a favor.

Centerpieces could feature a runner of grass down the center of each table..either fake grass-or maybe Easter grass. Place a pot of daffodils/tulips in the center & silk butterflies all along the runner.

For dessert-you might consider that 'dirt cake'-served in small plastic flowerpots-actually any dessert could be placed in these flower pots.

Get BIG paper/silk butterflies & suspend one from the ceiling using fishing line, so that your 'flutterby' hangs over the center of each table.

Hmm...why not have a 'Spring Bonnet' contest..invitations would suggest they come to the party in a hat crafted by them. The winner would get a gift certificate to a garden center.

I have an absolutely lucious recipe for Lemon Chicken Salad-for a shower I hosted-I sliced a tomato in 6 sections (don't cut all the way thru-spread it out into a flower like position & added a scoop of the salad-placed on a bed of curly lettuce and served on pretty plates. Also on the plate was a spear of chunks of fresh fruit & 3 small slices of 3 different kinds of homemade breads & a 'butter ball'. If interested in the recipe-email me.

    Have fun! I wanna' come!

Sharon, I want your recipe, please.
I have some of those big papier- mache butterflies.
I also have some dishes with butterflies and my sis
is an artist so she made me some beautiful napkin rings.
I have those hand painted goblets also.

I want the theme to be all about butterflies, I am
looking into a butterfly release at the end of the
luncheon. Where each guest has the envelope of butterflies
to open and everyone release at the same time.

I have butterfly note cards and pens with the butterflies on the top for favors.

Your idea of a "Spring Bonnet" is a wonderful one.

    Of course you can come.

If you can't do the butterfly release, you could take a piece of butterfly shaped paper per attendee, write their names and a mailing address on them and insert into a helium filled balloon....the balloons could be released at the end of the party. It's always fun to see who you hear from!!

Does anyone have any recipes for or ideas for desserts
    for this shindig?
Some company makes Butterfly shaped crackers.
I was thinking about these to go with the salad.

You can bake a couple 13x9 cakes and cut each in half. The Hot Milk cake would be delish-nice & firm & moist! From each half- cut the shapes of butterfly wings & the body. Ice in cool whip & for the color on each of the 2 butterflies-use sliced fresh fruit:
blueberries, bananas, raspberries, strawberries, star fruit, etc.

    Sounds good to me.
I am working on the invitations now and
getting all the dishes and serving dishes in order.
The handyman is here doing some work but so far there
has been too much rain to work outside.
The decks and patios have to be cleaned and painted.

I have been doing way too much shopping at the nursery.
Doesn't everyone, this time of the year.

I haven't contacted the butterfly farm yet but I will do that closer to the time of the party.

    Thanks, Sharon.
