Solar Power Questions

I need to find a website or just be able to calculate the number of solar panels needed for my camphouse.

I also need to know what type of inverters are needed, do they differ with wattage, etc. Also, is there a certain type of shutoff switch for the batteries once they are fully charged, and is there a shutoff to prevent too much drainage from the batteries.

How many batteries are needed and how many solar panels needed to charge each battery.

We have an average of 6 hours strong sun daily. Panels would be stationary.

Our house uses 1900kwh monthly maximum, so I calculated the camphouse would use less than 1100 max, but probably less than 600kwh monthly.

Any ideas where there is some good reading on this subject or any other advice?

I was told about several books but the ones I've read don't go into this part of solar energy.

There is a ton of info on the attached site. Several manufacturers do sell entire systems or kits for off grid applications, so they do all the design work for you. You just need to provide your power requirements.

Here is a link that might be useful: DIY solar

get a pro to do it, with a system that big you could easily fry yourself, or cook your $50,000 system
that's a lot of power

RE: Solar Power Questions

Thanks, Chris and Gary. I found a website a while back, that sold solar packages and the one I needed for my watt usage was $30,000.

To begin with, I will need much less watts but as time goes on, I will need more.

I talked to three different people who use them and they all said just to do it myself. Set up a system and then add solar panels, batteries, etc, as needed.

One man out here is setting up a $150,000 completely off-grid system. I have only talked to him once, but plan on visiting his place again soon.

Thanks also, Greif. If I could get a pro out here, I would, but it doesn't look promising.
