2 tanks or 1 in a geothermal system?

With efficient two element tank heaters, is there really a need to to have a pre-heat tank and a boost tank to get the best performance?

I'm considering spending for the Marathon, my cousin just installed a single 105g Marathon in their geotherm system and is happy. How much more efficient/performing is a 2 tank setup?

The 2-tank set up is far more efficient for use with a desuperheater. This is because with a buffer tank there is a greater temperature differential between entering and leaving water temperature than exists with a single tank solution.
