I do oil painting along with other hobbies, and obtain my canvas supplies from "Dick Blick" by the roll. The company is on the web. I've never thought of this canvas as being able to embroidery anything on. The canvas you might be able to obtain scrap of are at a fabric store and then you can ask questions about the material. The oil painting canvas tend to be sized too heavy and may break a needle or threads my break as well as your machine. If you are able to contact your local embroidery dealer about using this material and get as much information as possible. Some embroidery web sites a have a help source you might contact them.
