Brother Border Frame Kit

Anyone got experience with the Brother Border Frame Kit? I understand I have to know the software version of my machine & upgrade it to 4.0 if it's not already 4.0. Anyone done this? Anyone used this accessory kit? Got one now & I am wondering if it is worth all the effort. Ideas & comments appreciated.
