what do you charge for your embroidery??

Hi, Wow I haven't been here in a looooong time. I recently bought a Viking Huqsvarna Scandinavia 300 after ugrading from a Viking Daisy Model. I wanted to be able to do embroidery. Well, during one of my classes to learn how to use it, I decided to do another upgrade to a Scandinavia 400. (It does more fancy stitiches...)
I love my new machine. What I am wondering, is if any of you do embroidery jobs on the side. Small ones, I mean...towels, sweatshirt and the such. I have no idea what to charge. I just did my first "job" on 31 hand towels which each had 2 whimsical designs on them. Since it was my first, I charged $1.00 each. The "friend" bought the thread, which I did run out of and had to get more. But I am thinking I definately didn't charge enough. Please someone help me figure this out.
thanks

You probably didn't charge near enough, but since you are just learning, it was a good way to start. Have been embroidering for a couple of years. For friends, I sometimes charge less, but my standard fee is around $1 per 1000 stitches. A good place to help you would be http://www.embroiderylibraryprojects.com Once there, click on the tab at the top - Techniques and Guides. Go to the last "block" on the page "making money from your embroidery". Hope this helps.

More than welcome, Diane. Glad I could help. BTW, the site I sent you has a lot of wonderful information. Then the sister website www.emblibrary.com has mounds of designs at very reasonable prices with sales every week. My personal favorite. Enjoy!! Happy stitching!!
