Removing embroidery from linen

Hello, I had my daughter's name embroidered on her baptism gown, which is made of linen. The man that did the work misspelled her name, though. Is there anyway to remove embroidery without completely destroying that spot of the dress?

Hello:
Whenever I embroider something incorrectly, on the wrong side or underside of design, I use a straight razor and GENTLY shave it off. This cuts the bottom threads, and you can easily remove the top threads. Good Luck

A lot depends on the size of the embroidery & stabilizers on the back. I use a beard & mustache trimmer on the back to cut the thread & then pick out from the front.
