Making own design

I have a new Janome 350 and I want to make own designs. Can someone please inform me of what I need and how to go about creating my own. I have a friend who would like me to design a shirt for their business. They mainly want me to use the business name however I am not sure how to go about doing this.

Any help is greatly appreciated

RE: Making own design

I have a Brother and use PE-Design or Embird Studio to create designs. I used PE-Design to create an embroidery design of a logo I aread had a jpeg of. I just imported it and let the program do the rest. Of course, that sounds super easy but you really have to know how to use the software. Embird has a 30 day trial. Either way you'll need software to create your own designs or pay someone else to do it. The software is not cheap by any means.
