Cotton Machine Embroidery Thread

Hi everyone...I am new to the wonderful world of machine embroidery and am looking for recommendations of cotton machine embroidery thread. I am doing red-work on towels and other simple stitch outs that I want more of a vintage feel. Will any poly threads do the same look? The rayon and some poly are to shiny for that look. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
