Phillips Magnavox 20' TV Problem (revised question)

Model: 20MT1331/17.

My problem is that I went to turn my TV on and all I got was a black screen with a single, bright, flickering white line going down the middle. The TV would then shut off after about 5-10 seconds...There is no video or audio during this time either, just the black screen. This occured during several attempts to turn the television on with intermittent periods when it would not come on at all. I would let it rest for a few hours and then attempt to turn it on again only to see the white light going down the middle. I even have tried moving the TV to different outlets with the same results. What could have caused this? Is this fixable? If so what can I do? Please advise!
