Home theater and office?

Hi,

We are redoing our basement and one room will become my husband's office / home theater. My own office, where the modem and the wireless router and cable telephone are, is on the main floor, and we had previously drilled a hole through the floor and run a cable off my router into the basement to attach to my husband's (wired) computer down there. Then I read about a home theater system that connects directly to netflix etc through such a cable. Do you know if I would need to run an extra cable off the router in my office to do this, or is it splittable? or am I completely on the wrong track? The electrician has no clue about these things, and nor do I really. Also, would I need a separate cable box for the TV down there (the main cable box is in the living room on the main floor)? And would it be possible to get a phone down there hooked up the the cable phone router thing that's in my office? Yikes! And the home theater speakers just attach to the receiver, which would sit by the TV, right? Where does the sub-woofer go? So much to learn for a tech ignoramus!

I would consider hiring the CEDIA specialist, but the local company's website says that their minimum cost is $5000!
