| Have an RCA Model CC9360 MiniDV camera that has been working fine until recently. I used it last summer, and it worked fine. I also just used it back in late June '06, seemingly with no problems. I just went to view what I recorded, but the LCD said "E04, Unit in Safeguard Mode. Remove and reinsert battery." I did that, and it gave me the same error.
Thinking it was the tape, I removed the tape, and put a different one in. Normally I insert the tape, push the lid down into the mechanism, and then the motor revs up and entire mechanism slides back into the camera. Well this time, the motor revs up, higher than usual, does NOT suck the tape in, and gives me the same error. If I take out the tape, and close the tape door WITHOUT the tape, it sucks the mechanism in fine, and allows me to use the camera fine, except I cannot record (obviously). The manual absolutely SUCKS, simply saying that if you get ANY error message, remove the battery, wait, and try again. If that doesn't work, see an RCA repair center. I'm sure the cost for this problem would exceed 50% of a new model. |

| The manual is correct in this case. It has a failure in the mechanical portion of the unit. Something is likely to be broken but may just be out of timing. You need someone very familiar with this unit to do it right. If it came to my shop, I would most likely send the customer to an RCA service center. |
