Have you tried removing the batteries from the remote control entirely? If it happens with no batteries then the TV is receiving the signal from another electronic device. Have you added anything new since the TV has been exhibiting this behavior? One by one, remove batteries from remotes of other devices once you are sure it is not the TV's remote.

I have no answer but I once had a TV that would turn on in the middle of the night. I quickly got rid of it because it scared the heck outta me.

I was going to post this anyway so here is as good a place as any. If you have a remote that doesn't work or certain buttons don't work, it may need cleaning.

I was having trouble with my cable remote - buttons not working or working intermittently. You can take the screws out, gently pop the case apart (usually they are snapped together so find a place to pry and get it started, then pop the whole thing carefully). Pull out the board and the rubber button membrane.

On mine, which is a very common cable remote, the circuit board has spots that the buttons hit. On the bottom of the buttons is a black conductive material that bridges the bare traces on the board when it touches. I cleaned the board with alcohol on a rag - very gentle wiping and drying. Reassemble. Voila, it works perfectly.
