Home security alarm options

I understand that traditional home alarm services like Brinks and ADT run thru your home telephone system. We will not be replacing our land line once we move into our new home and will instead be using cell phones. Are their any alternatives available to us? I envision a system similar to a car alarm whereas it is an audible alarm if someone vandalizes say the windows, etc but no company monitors this (but rather annoyed neighbors =))).

Any suggestions appreciated.

RE: Home security alarm options

Audible alarms are one option. Another is a cellular connection to the monitoring company. Even the big boys (Brinks, ADT, etc.) sell cellular backups on their alarm systems. Frankly, your best bet on home security is a local shop that partners with a national monitoring outfit. They'll be more willing to meet your needs and you'll probably find them price-competitive or better.
