Home generator AVR

I have a 5.2 home generator as back-up for my house. But, my UPS's and PIR controlled security lights go 'off' and 'on' repeatedly. On an oscillascope there are 'kinks' on the wave. Is this problem inherent in cheap generators or, could the AVR be faulty?, if not, could the AVR be upgraded? Thanks for any help.

RE: Home generator AVR

what is the voltage doing?

it can be the frequency as well, many UPSs will run on battery if the frequency is off more than 1hz.

and yes, cheap gennies are hell on electronics, many times the two won't get along no matter what you do!
