Music and voices: BUT no radio !!!

Good morning...

My Mom will be 90 years old and still is totally independent, but the stress she has from the following puzzle is taking such a toll on her.

Situation:

When she was getting ready for sleep in the evning, she heard music and voices ( in a low range of volume). She was very scared by this but summoned courage to go check the rest of the house. For the past month she has not been able to discover what is still-continuing producing this sound .

I am disabled and live 100 miles from her home, so cannot physically help her sleuth this mystery.

Some data from questions I asked this evning.

SAME songs and music and voices over and over..

No batteries or electronic devices such as pacemaker or hearing aid.

No metal dental fillings.

Hears this aberration indoors and outdoors.

Hears this even when she is in the town 15 miles from her.

She lives 1/2 mile from a cell tower.

She has a satellite company ( either Dish or Direct ) for her TV reception with a small dish mounted on the first floor of her 3 story house.

She denies that an old clock-radio or radio may be in a drawer or place in the house, even with just a back-up battery.

She is unsure if anyone else hears this .

She is extremely scared of what "might be going on". She has excellent cognition and lives alone in a 3-story farm- house on 25 acres of land.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Patricia

This one is the troubling one.

"Hears this even when she is in the town 15 miles from her."

Is she running a fan nearby?
The motor windings pick up strong radio signals.
I was listening to my little desktop fan earlier today.

If the statement jdbillp quoted is correct, then either your mother has a cell phone or wristwatch or something on her person/in her purse/whatever that's around wherever she is. Otherwise there's no reason to hear the same noises 15 miles apart -- but wherever she is.

One data point I did not see: does she hear this at the same time every day?

She also could try to disconnect the satellite TV receiver (though I don't know what effects that will have on program settings and the like). If it's electrically dead, it should not be picking up any signal and therefore can be ruled out.

I have lived in a couple of houses now in which I can hear loud noises from several miles away. I live about 2-3 miles from a festival site from which I can hear fireworks on July 4th. And, in another home, I could hear the high school marching band practicing a couple of miles away. Sound waves skipping on clouds or something. Could that be it?

It would seem that the first thing to do would be to get another person to be with OP's Mom and see if they hear the same thing. If not, then I'd suggest she discuss this with a doctor, preferably a geriatric specialist. Seriously.

You all have been very caring and supportive in your responses about my Mom's unwelcomed intrusion of music and voices . I appreciate your sensitivity in what will likely be a life-changing cause of this audio hallucination plaquing my Mom's serene enjoyment of beautiful counntry life. She is scheduled to see her Primary Care physician next week. My guess is that the part of her brain that stores and remembers music and auditory input has a little blood clot or tumor causing this phenomenon.
The song that is always playing according to Mom, is "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem"
Many thanks to all who helped me and offered commentary and suggestions !
    Many Blessings to all.....

Well, at least it is a pleasant song.

Seriously though, I wish you good luck in helping your mom.
