If the statement jdbillp quoted is correct, then either your mother has a cell phone or wristwatch or something on her person/in her purse/whatever that's around wherever she is. Otherwise there's no reason to hear the same noises 15 miles apart -- but wherever she is.

One data point I did not see: does she hear this at the same time every day?

She also could try to disconnect the satellite TV receiver (though I don't know what effects that will have on program settings and the like). If it's electrically dead, it should not be picking up any signal and therefore can be ruled out.

I have lived in a couple of houses now in which I can hear loud noises from several miles away. I live about 2-3 miles from a festival site from which I can hear fireworks on July 4th. And, in another home, I could hear the high school marching band practicing a couple of miles away. Sound waves skipping on clouds or something. Could that be it?

It would seem that the first thing to do would be to get another person to be with OP's Mom and see if they hear the same thing. If not, then I'd suggest she discuss this with a doctor, preferably a geriatric specialist. Seriously.

You all have been very caring and supportive in your responses about my Mom's unwelcomed intrusion of music and voices . I appreciate your sensitivity in what will likely be a life-changing cause of this audio hallucination plaquing my Mom's serene enjoyment of beautiful counntry life. She is scheduled to see her Primary Care physician next week. My guess is that the part of her brain that stores and remembers music and auditory input has a little blood clot or tumor causing this phenomenon.
