phillips 27' tv scrren black, no sound green led

ok i seem to be having the same problem with my 27 inch phillips as everyone else, green led comes on but no picture or sound, nothing but the green light. is this a problem that i can fix myself all i need is the part, i have taken several electronics classes in the past but when it comes to finding the problem on a tv im lost, can you please help me it would be much appreciated. -thanx
