Volume Problem With My 32'' Magnavox TV

I'm having Volume problems with my ten year old Magnavox 32" TV. I have medium sound coming out but I can't control the volume. When I press the +/- Volume button(on the TV panel or Remote), the scroll bar on the TV screen goes up and down but the volume stays the same. Can anyone help?
