My sis in law uses invisible thread. She just finds a starting point & starts sewing it on. I have never tried it myself. I start at the bottom of the head & work from one side to the other using my glue gun. Move up an inch or so & start gluing again. I do pretty well until it comes to framing the face or making bangs. Then it takes me FOREVER to get it to look like I want it to. Hope this helps.

Wendy Tobias is a member of the American Girl Doll group and she sells all kinds of wigs...you could go to yahoo groups and sign up at the AGBuddies to see a list of her wigs or email her at clsact@whidbey.net ...she will also give you instructions on how to measure your doll for a wig....I have also seen lots of wigs on ebay..I have never bought aything from her so I can't vouch for quality, availability, etc etc....

Making hair out of yarn is not hard. You can use whole strands of fine yarn for straight hair, or you can unwind thicker yarn for curly hair. The yarn hair can be stitched or glued onto a ribbon or gauze and then glued to the head, or it can be stitched straight onto the head if it's made from soft material. The simplest way is to make a thick hank of yarn and tie it together in the middle with a thread of the same yarn. Fasten this to the doll's head, gather together and make a bun or a braid at the back, pulling the strands together to cover the top of the head. Jane, I just started my 4th month of HRT and I swear my hair suddenly feels familiar again! It has so much more body. Today I didn't even put conditioner in it because it feels so healthy without. Heck, I was going for the heavy duty moisturizer conditioners before and my hair was fly away frizzy and wouldn't do anything I asked - which was not much at all. It sounds like there is only so much you are willing to give up and I can't blame you. I'd try HRT first (3 full months) and if that doesn't work, promise yourself that $2,700. wig. NOW! Stop worrying because either way, your hair is going to be OK. Either with hormones or hair replacement therapy, which ever works. You are too pretty to let a little thing like hair get in the way of your confidence and happiness. $2,700. isn't that much money to spend on something big that can be fixed. Why do we justify so much money easily on our houses and then cheap out on the things that keep us from sleeping well at night? No one should cry themselves to sleep when a mere $2,700. could fix it. Yes, we may be vain. So what! Try the hormones, but don't rule out the wig! I bet a new leg would cost lots more... Be grateful it is only hair you need. LOL!
