Doll Hair

I need help with restoring Doll Hair. My doll is almost 40 years old (OMG that sounds terrible - I am 43 and I don't remember not having her!). I loved her way too much and brushed most of her hair out. She is about 2 feet long - wears 12-18 month baby clothes - cloth body and plastic head, arms, and legs. The original hair was a short bob, with bangs and "pin curls" on front sides.

I took her to a doll hospital several years ago and she got a new body and hair, but the hair is awful. The hospital cut off the original hair and glued on a wig with long wavy hair! (I almost cried!!) I would love to restore her to "close to original" hair if possible.

I would love any suggestions or help!!!

Hi. I just found this forum....it's great! I'm looking for dollmakers/restorers to see if the real hair I have lots of is suitable for their craft. I am not a Business. I have inherited these hair items from my Mother In Law, who was a hairdresser. They are in my Vintage shop, (although they are not vintage, but new, and unused,) along with Vintage items, also inherited. If this link is against the rules here, please forgive me. I just need to find someone who could use them. I certainly will not trash them out for the landfill!
The first link is human hair plugs, in many colors. The others are extension sets and individual pieces, that can be used to create wigs, also in many colors. They are priced very realistically.

sjarz, for the doll head only, which is what I want to make, the directions say: arrange and glue doll hair on head. In this same craft book, you can also make the entire Raggedy Ann doll. It also calls for knit doll hair loops, but it says: arrange hair loops on head and "stitch" in place". I really have no idea what they are talking about when they say knit doll hair loops. What I think of are the loops we used to make potholders with years ago. Kind of looks like those in the pictures. It says nothing in the directions about wrapping the wool around a ruler and then sliding them off, or anything else. Only what I have listed above.

My sis in law uses invisible thread. She just finds a starting point & starts sewing it on. I have never tried it myself. I start at the bottom of the head & work from one side to the other using my glue gun. Move up an inch or so & start gluing again. I do pretty well until it comes to framing the face or making bangs. Then it takes me FOREVER to get it to look like I want it to. Hope this helps.

It is really hard, not worth doing, you can try dyeing, but it won't take, you can try rerooting, but that takes so many hours, and only an expert can do it. Search on customizing barbie dolls, and you will find tons of how to sites.

Is there an easy way to apply doll hair

I've mostly used yarn for hair on my dolls. I take some yarn, unraveling it if I want curly hair, and cut it into even lengths. When I think I have enough, I tie a bunch of yarn lengths together with a piece of the same yarn in the middle. I then hold it to the doll's head with pins while I form the hair-do (braids, up-do, whatever). When IÂm happy with the hair, I lift the wig and put glue on the head and then gently press down the wig. Yarn can also be sewn to a piece of ribbon (same colour as the doll) and the ribbon sewn to the dollÂs head and the hair styled.
